Here here, happy dad.
I get so irritated when I see the people who are on welfare that I am supporting (via taxes) making more money than I do at a full time government job!!
a couple of weeks ago i had a sebaceous cyst removed from my back; it was infected and almost the size of a baseball and went down to muscle.
it got infected.
it wasnt that big for a long time and i had to have it removed.

i can't stand unappreciative people.
when you do something thoughtful for a person and they either seldom acknowledge it or half heartedly say, "thanks".
Minimus,
You just described my sister. Now when we get together we do a preemptive (sp), "no talking until the end of the movie".

I get irritated when people imply you are being mean for doing your job.
...and a gentle jab at many of us older guys, and a valuable lesson to pass on to younger guys..

That was great. What is even funnier, someone won the auction.
i'm no watchtower apologist, but when i look back on it all, one of the biggest things that made me believe we had the truth was the shear fact that there was a zero tollerance for any and all conduct unbecoming of a christian: fornication, adultery, yada yada yada, many of the crimes the church with thier throngs of adhereants were allowed to get away with were unthinkable in the kingdom hall.
am i missing something?.
doing that which has been done to many of us is ,afterall, scriptural.
I attended a Church of Christ church once. It was very similar to a Sunday meeting at the KH. After the service, I was talking to a few people and we discussed disfellowshipping/shunning. They admitted that their church also does this as it is scriptural. They did explain that it is used as a very last resort. It isn't as common as the JW's.
so a friend told me something recently that just blew my mind.
she was interrogated by some elders regarding her choice of underwear.
she was being questionned regarding her conduct with a man and apparently her choice of undergarments reflected the level of intent in her actions.
Six years later, and I still break down and cry when I think of my jc meeting.
i'm getting a little sick of being taken advantage of.
don't get me wrong there are times when it is a great job, it's probably my ideal job, but it has such a negative effect on me, i'm depressed when i think about going there, i lose practically all of my friday and saturday nights and there are people there that i absolutely detest.
and i'm a keyholder, so for a small increase in salary i get so much extra responsibility and bs over it.
yes
no offense to those with large families (and no compliment to those with small ones), this is a thread speaking of averages and groups, not specific people and families.
your mileage may vary.
dealer participation will affect consumer cost.
No need to quantify your response. I did not take offense. In fact, I rarely take offense. I was just reiterating my belief that having children is a decision and all aspects of that decision should be explored.
I checked out the link within doogie's thread. OMG, now that is scary. Christians have kids so we can make more christians. She didn't take into account that not all children of christian parents will grow up to be christian. Similar to the "intelligent parents don't always have intelligent children".
I have to agree with John Doe. There are few emotions as satisfying as the feeling you get from having your child look up to you and helping them learn about their world.

Do the stupid people with large families that I've been exposed to have them because they decided to, or because they failed to decide not to?
Because they failed to decide not to. The stupidest thing I have ever heard is "accidental pregnancy". There is no such thing!!! We all know what causes pregnancy. If you don't want to have children, there are steps that can be taken to ensure this doesn't happen. I do realize that birth control can fail, but alas this too can be thwarted. It is called abstinence if you are that serious about not having kids.
Yes, part of the "conscience decision to have a large family" is the means to be able to support it. I too get very irritated when I see families on public assistance spitting out babies like it is their personal responsibility to populate the entire earth.

This is assuming idiot parents have idiot children which is clearly not always true. It is also assuming intelligent parents raise intelligent children; also false.
I think that statement says it all. I don't think this is an accurately quantifiable scenario.
As for intelligence in relation to birth control, you may have a more probable argument. I like to believe my husband and I are quite intelligent and we have made a conscience decision to have a large family (we have 3 children and plan to have at least one more) and I know we are not alone in this decision. My cousin and her husband have also made that same decision (they have 5 children) and they are both highly intelligent.
Edited to add - Both my husband (Army) and I (Government) work full time. No one else is supporting our decision to have children. Thank you very much.
