Sounds exactly like my elder father, and my M.S. father in law. Maybe all you can hope for is to plant some seed of reason in his mind. People will believe whatever they have to in order to be comfortable.

You're not going to be able to convince him of anything. The part about that letter that pisses me off the most, is how he's trying to lay the blame on you for the family shunning you. That's total bullshit! I wouldn't let him get away with it. You need to tell him that. Say something like, "Any study of the scripture I've ever done has only re-enforced how strong a family should be." Tell him that it is certainly not your intention to never associate with them again. To the contrary, you expect to go on loving them just as Christ would.
If you let him bully you into a corner, and take the blame for shunning you all his preconceptions will be proved right. Do what you want, but I wouldn't stand for it!

I have heard the same attitude around my area. I know a superfine apostles elder trying SOOO hard to become a CO. I also know several young couples who have tried over and over to get into Bethel......anything to escape the drudgery of hanging sheetrock, and laying brick for a living. One of my friends married the snobby daughter of a local elder. They had a bit of money since he owns his own brick-laying company. (He makes a lot by hiring Mexicans at 8 bucks a day....). They were trying to get into Bethel, but since she had absolutely no skills, she was going to have to clean toilets all day. ROFLOL!

by Gill inwell, today i began to think there really was no point in trying to argue a point in a reasonable reasoning way with a jw, after all, there's non so blind as those who will not see.. i saw my, mother, again and we had a humungous scrap on the wtbts.
she wanted to know if i expected her to return to the rcatholic church as that's the religion she originated in.
she told me how she had been badly beaten by the nuns and that on one occasion when she had missed class and gone to the cinema instead she had received such a severe clobbering that she could barely sit down for a week.

I just love how the WTS programs it's slaves with simple things to prove their correctness. They are so convinced that some evil "apostate" conspiracy is out there. So anytime you question their beliefs all you end up doing is validating those beliefs. Well the society says that the internet was created by Satan to draw away weak minded dubs. Now here you are with your information from the internet. See the Society was right, they are God's mouthpiece. It's simple twisted logic.
