Hey all - So i got a free iPod when I bought my Mac recently. I'm going to give it to a 12-yr old kid I worked with at the group home over the summer. The issues I'm concerned with are: 1 - What kind of charger to buy him - there's no computer available at the home for him to use (I'm loading it up w/music from my collection). 2 - If I should purchase additional time on the warranty - I know my iPod can be a bit tempermental, so I'm worried about it getting broken. Any ideas will be most appreciated! Cady

Bethelite Attorney-In-Training Receives Award
by West70 ingeneral studies student receives women's forum education award
school of general studies student kathleen apltauer has received the 2005 women's forum educational award.
the award is presented annually to new york city women in recognition of the extraordinary and heroic efforts they have made in order to overcome adversity in their lives.

I didn't see any info on what she actually does: mentoring young women is pretty vague, and could quite easily include chatting w/younger sisters in service. I can also see an app to an awards committee being spun quite well to give an inaccurate image, as they're not going to be familiar w/the way the organization works. I'm just not seeing anything that impressive here, sorry. And I'm sure she could also get lots of recommendation letters from the WTBTS that would give an inaccurate impression. Honesty isn't a real high priority for them when it comes to getting good publicity.
Now if there was something like "in 2002 she spent x number of hours doing x" or a list of real accomplishments, etc., I'd be more interested.

I'm livid...
by Cady inwalking one of the kids i work with to school this morning and there's a dirty syringe on the sidewalk.
this is just two blocks from the middle school and tons of kids walk down that sidewalk on their way to school.. i used to not think much about drug use - my attitude was, you want to screw up your life, go ahead.
but now that i work with kids who've often been deprived of a good home b/c their parents are addicts...when i'm 100 feet from a shooting that is drug-related...and most of all when i see the dealers drive by in their rides and the kids ooh and awe over them and see that as some kind of shining example of where their lives could go...i'm becoming very disgusted and angry in general.

I'd just gotten a scone from Starbucks and it was in a paper bag, so took the paper bag and picked up the needle with it, then took it to the school and security disposed of it.
I certainly didn't want to touch it, but there are a lot of kids who pass by that street and so I didn't see an alternative. I had to get the kid I worked with to school so I couldn't call the cops and wait for them to come get it; besides, there are a lot of serious problems in that neighborhood (shootings, etc. - police cars w/full sirens pass by 3-4 times an hour 24/7) so it could have been quite awhile before they came to deal with a needle.

I don't know what the answer is. Legalization would solve some of the problems, but unless you added sterilization for addicts you'd still be sending lots of kids to really horrible lives.

Born in or brought in observation
by startingover ini was a born in jw.
i suppose i could best be described now as an athiest.
i have a hard time understanding how someone can figure out the jw scam and then become a born again christian.

I was thinking about it and it's hard for me to compare b/c all but one of the exjws I know were born into it. Interestingly, though, the one that was not is now very into things like tarot cards, astrology, etc., which I think are total b.s.

Night sp! :-)
Spectre - So it was both before my time and a cartoon. :-) I can't really explain what wires were crossed when I was a kid as far as cartoons go - for some reason I just didn't get them. I think being a good jw girl I was just too serious in general. They'd play cartoons on rainy days during recess time at school and I just remember being so bored but trying to laugh along w/everybody else so I didn't seem out of place...

Spectre -
Speed Racer? You'll have to fill me in... :-) It's either before my time or I'm just clueless about it. But then again I didn't understand why cartoons were funny when I was a kid, so the latter option is completely possible.

But hey, I think we need a new question...only I'm too tired to think of anything creative. Anybody else?

I never noticed the soundtrack and usually I do...I need to watch it again. The suicides did fool me totally. And of course he should be jealous of Johnny Depp, he's gorgeous! Hey, wasn't he in 21 Jumpstreet years ago? I used to love that show...I have a feeling if I watched it now I'd be horrified at its stupidity. A good reason to not watch it and spoil the lovely memory!

spark- That line where she's dying and (I know I won't quote it prob even halfway right) but Harold's telling her how much he loves her and she's so happy that he could love and she says "love some more." (Sobbing silently while watching it with a big group of friends!)
