Sorry for listing ppl in the area w/o asking. I tried to go back and edit the post but it doesn't seem to be working. I'll e-mail Simon and ask him to delete my post. Cady

A dear friend once told me "there's nothing you could do that would make me love you more, and nothing you could do that would make me love you less." And I wish I could believe that - at times I almost do. The reasoning I use is that the ppl I truly love could never do things like commit rape or murder or molestation (unless mentally ill in some way) as that is just completely beyond their character. And honestly, I can't think of anyone I dearly love who would do any of those things or anyone I've loved who has done any of those things. I know some ppl will argue back that every serial-killer's mom thinks he's an angel (okay, exaggerating a bit here) so maybe the caveat should be that this doesn't apply to loving our kids (b/c that's genetic??) or to those we "love" out of codependence and therefore can't admit anything's wrong ever (seen lots of that w/moms who abandon their kids to have a guy around - hmm, there's a whole other question in light of the loving your kids thing...) c.

It's hard to really get an idea what was in this kid's head. On one hand, it sounds like he wanted to do something "moral", but a large part of me is thinking this was more an adventure. He still has no idea how much danger he put himself in, nor does he understand what others did to help him.
Caveat: I just finished two 10-hr shifts at a group home, during which I was told by a 13-yr old that he knows more than most adults etc etc. So part of my reading of this situation is no doubt influenced by that.

Hey all - So i got a free iPod when I bought my Mac recently. I'm going to give it to a 12-yr old kid I worked with at the group home over the summer. The issues I'm concerned with are: 1 - What kind of charger to buy him - there's no computer available at the home for him to use (I'm loading it up w/music from my collection). 2 - If I should purchase additional time on the warranty - I know my iPod can be a bit tempermental, so I'm worried about it getting broken. Any ideas will be most appreciated! Cady

I didn't see any info on what she actually does: mentoring young women is pretty vague, and could quite easily include chatting w/younger sisters in service. I can also see an app to an awards committee being spun quite well to give an inaccurate image, as they're not going to be familiar w/the way the organization works. I'm just not seeing anything that impressive here, sorry. And I'm sure she could also get lots of recommendation letters from the WTBTS that would give an inaccurate impression. Honesty isn't a real high priority for them when it comes to getting good publicity.
Now if there was something like "in 2002 she spent x number of hours doing x" or a list of real accomplishments, etc., I'd be more interested.
