Absolutely go for it!! For one, you have an incredible motivation and appreciation for a college education that few of the other students will have. That gives you a great edge. And for me, sitting in class with passionate discussions while it pours outside - it's living a dream. Your age can work for you, too; at 27 I feel old on a campus where only 12% of the students are 25+, but having been in the "real-world" for a bit longer than the typical 18 yr-olds gives me a level of responsibility that haven't necessarily developed quite yet. It's definitely paid off: I have an awesome job as a research assistant in a wonderful lab that's very well-respected.

Did any of you head off to University after leaving the org
by yaddayadda inone of my biggest regrets is not getting a degree, due to the jw brain-washing against higher education.
i feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this.
i was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that i never went on to varsity.

unconditional love
by John Doe ini'm rather sick of hearing the term "unconditional love.
" there is no such thing.
love must be earned--it is not something given with no strings attached.

A dear friend once told me "there's nothing you could do that would make me love you more, and nothing you could do that would make me love you less." And I wish I could believe that - at times I almost do. The reasoning I use is that the ppl I truly love could never do things like commit rape or murder or molestation (unless mentally ill in some way) as that is just completely beyond their character. And honestly, I can't think of anyone I dearly love who would do any of those things or anyone I've loved who has done any of those things. I know some ppl will argue back that every serial-killer's mom thinks he's an angel (okay, exaggerating a bit here) so maybe the caveat should be that this doesn't apply to loving our kids (b/c that's genetic??) or to those we "love" out of codependence and therefore can't admit anything's wrong ever (seen lots of that w/moms who abandon their kids to have a guy around - hmm, there's a whole other question in light of the loving your kids thing...) c.

It's hard to really get an idea what was in this kid's head. On one hand, it sounds like he wanted to do something "moral", but a large part of me is thinking this was more an adventure. He still has no idea how much danger he put himself in, nor does he understand what others did to help him.
Caveat: I just finished two 10-hr shifts at a group home, during which I was told by a 13-yr old that he knows more than most adults etc etc. So part of my reading of this situation is no doubt influenced by that.
