Help me get in the mood!
by Crumpet inearlier today i posted a rather scroogish reply to a sweet post from rebel8.. christmas is just a week away.
i've decorated the house singlehandly - wrapped millions of presents, put the tree up, faithfully pegged the cards up on a silver thread extending over the dining room and am about to commence a frenzy of cleaning so that i dont look too slovenly when the in laws arrive.
i've even played a bit of bing crosby earlier.. so tell me whats good about christmas and how to get in the spirit?

MAN DATES GAL ON INTERNET FOR SIX MONTHS -- AND IT TURNS OUT SHE'S HIS MOM
by zagor ina good lesson for everybody using the net ... .
marseilles, france -- skirt-chasing playboy daniel anceneaux spent weeks talking with a sensual woman on the internet before arranging a romantic rendezvous at a remote beach -- and discovering that his on-line sweetie of six months was his own mother!
"i walked out on that dark beach thinking i was going to hook up with the girl of my dreams," the rattled bachelor later admitted.

I have a couple of questions about the bible..Please help! Elders got upset
by DavidChristopher ini tried to ask elders and they got upset with me.
if bad associations spoil useful habits, why did jesus do it?
why is nothing new ever discovered from the bible?

Why did I get into trouble asking questions about things I read in the bible?; Are we not bible students?
David,
Asking questions worries them because much of the Watchtower doctrine is not Bible-based. When you ask questions, you start demanding critical thinking, and critical thinking is discouraged at every level by the Watchtower.
You should be careful about asking questions - make sure you want to deal with the consequences of using your brain. There is a lot of freedom to be had by utilizing your God-given ability to reason, but those who despise critical thinking in favor of conformity for the sake of maintaining an organization, will reject you.

Orwell, 1984, and the Watchtower
by RichieRich inso my english class just got handed (yesterday) 1984, by george orwell.
its a book i've been wanting to read for a long time, but haven't been able to (i read non stop for english class).. so i was really excited when i got the book.
from what i've heard about it, it seemed like it would be really pertinent for people in the watchtower.. all i can say is wow.

1984 is one of the greatest books ever. The end, in particular, shocked me when I first read it.
The movie Brazil is a loose re-telling of 1984. I recommend it highly.

So were any bible prophecies true?
by cheeseman ini'm just wondering to what extent the bible accurately predicted future events?.
when i was a good little jw, i was constantly reassured that we could have confidence in the paradise because the bible always got it's predictions correct since it was inspired by jah, blah, blah.. does anyone know of a good website which critically examines each bible prophecy one by one?
what do real bible scholars with no bias make off all these prophecies?.

I'm not a Canadian, but I got three... which is, I suppose, statistically what I should have gotten if I guessed at every single one.

Is Christmas for Atheists?
by LittleToe ingiven that so many practises associated with christmas are blatantly christian in origin, is christmas truly for atheists?
i know that often there are few christian connotations attributed to it nowadays, in such a secularised society, but history is on record in showing that the whole baby jesus thing and angels singing with their "peace and goodwill" stuff is definitely a christian element.
would any true atheist today want to drink such a mixed cup?

I'm an atheist and I celebrate Christmas. Not with religious songs or going to church, but by enjoying my family and celebrating our time together.
