My first name is Naomi. I hate it when people miss pronounce it. Then again I have a horriable time remembering names of people I meet so I guess if they miss pronounce mine and I forget theirs we should be even.

OMG shunning story
by man in black inmy wife and i went to fedex / kinko's this afternoon and ran into a girl who was df'ed several years ago, (her parents are quite the rabid jw's.).
they have two daughters, and the younger one recently got married at the kh.. the older one who we were talking to proceeded to tell us that she decided to attend her younger sisters wedding ceremony which was fine despite the fact that nobody talked to her.. but after the wedding she was basically ushered out of the hall.
she was not allowed to participate in any pictures, or allowed to speak to the new couple.

I had almost the exact oppistie happen to me at a cousins wedding. She made a point of asking my mother to ask me to come to the cerimony just so I could be in the pictures on stage at the KH. My aunt, her mother, supported her wanting this and I decided to go. I got there and I was talked to and in the pictures and even went to dinner with my parents who skipped the reception to go to dinner with me. I'm one of the lucky ones though. It really makes me sad when I hear stories like this one.

I know Ziddna. The Jw's acted like I had spit on them or something. The pastor was currious but didn't push her religion on me as an answer to my problem with JW's. She is a very nice lady. I have to say though that I can't wait to get a car again. This riding the bus sucks big time for more than one reason!!

That was the second time in the last month that I've been approached at this same bus stop. The first time I told the girl I don't want to talk about your cult today. She looked at me funny like she han't really heard that and started talking to the lady sitting next to me that I see twice a week on our way to school. The lady politely told her no thanks and then proceeded to tell me she is a pastor and I was right about them and then she invited me to her church. I politely said no thanks I'm not a christian. She said ok. Then later when we had both got off the buss at school she asked me why I'm not a christian. I told her about being raised a JW. She instantly understood and hasn't pressed the issue since.

I have shingles

I've had shingles twice. It is way more common in older people 60 and over, I was 33, I think, the last time I had them and 10 the first time. The last time I was able to get the meds and it went away in a week. The worst part is the nerve pain. That can last for months and months. Mine went away after a few weeks. I went to work oneday and told my friend that I was having pain that started in my back under my sholder blade and went around to my breast. She looked at the tiny little sore that I had on my back and told me to go to the doctor because she thought it was shingles. She was right!!
My doctor told me that anyone who has had the chicken pox can get it, but people 60 and older are much more likely to get it then a younger person. In fact it was extremely rare that I had it at 10 years old. The doctor also told me that stress can cause your immune system to decrease and that can cause the shingles. I happened to find out about 3 or 4 months later after the second time I had them that I am a diabetic which can also affect your immune system. Add diabetes with the stress of working 80 hours a week between 2 jobs and yeah it's no wonder that I got them again.
I hope you feel better. I know the pain your feeling and I sympathize with you. I would also recommend you get a physical asap after your feeling better just to rule out any under laying cause that my be affecting your immune system.

You're only an ATHEIST because of the abusive relationship you had with your former religion..?
by Velour inthe few times that i've had a chat about my atheism, i usually get a response like the one above.
"well, seeing how you were in a cult- i can understand why you're an atheist now," just dismissing the bulk of the reasons i have for my disbelief.. i think what is particularly awkward about someone telling me this is- it's part way true- only part way though.
however, they stop listening after i explain to them that, "yes, being in a cult was an impetus to my search" and they fail to hear the rest of what i'm saying and believe that i went from point a to point f and just skipped all the steps and months of research in between out of some kind of anti-jw tantrum.

I'm an Atheist because I don't believe in sky people and hell people.
A religious person hears the voice of god and he's a prophet, an Atheists hears voices and he's got mental problems.

I've been shunned for 14 years. It does get better. At first it was everyone in my family that completely shunned me, then after about a year or so my parents slowly came around and now we have a normal relationship. Everyone else still shunns me but I don't really care because I have friends and my parents. This site is good to talk about what is going on and find people who know what it feels like.
