When my x-wife and I were newly married we were talking to an elder about something. I don't remember what. I had expressed to my x-wife that I didn't understand the ransom scarifice. Jesus was perfect and also knew exactly what was going to happen when he died. What was the big deal? If an imperfect human "dies for righteousness sake" it seemed like a bigger deal to me. Anyway, my x asks this elder: "How do you explain the ransom scarifice to someone?" He, of course, didn't know I was the one who didn't understand. His answer was you'd have to be pretty stupid not to understand that.

Examples of JW evasiveness/dishonesty
by BONEZZ inbeing born and bred into the borg i always felt it was the "truth" but i wasn't the one who measured up i was not good enough to be a dub.
but i also had nagging questions that went unanswered by the most learned elders...or at least not answered to my satisfaction.
their "answers" were in fact not really answers but side-steps or attempts to mis-direct my question into an area they could answer.. an example...it always bothered me that we could not examine the contents of what opposers put out.

You might be from the Pacific Northwest if:
by Mulan inthese were great...........of course those of you who don't live here, might not get them, but i sure did!
1. you know the state flower (mildew).
2. you feel guilty throwing aluminum cans or paper in the trash.. 3. use the statement "sun break" and know what it means.. 4. you know more than 10 ways to order coffee.. 5. you know more people who own boats than air conditioners.. 6. you feel overdressed wearing a suit to a nice restaurant.

microphones were the last straw
by ivy init wasn't the big stuff that made me decide i could never go back, it was one little thing.
i have been thinking about my journey out of "the truth", and i think i can pin-point the last straw.. .
i had been out for years, but always thinking that if i got my head together someday i would be good enough to go back.

If I remember right 1989 was the year only elders and their families could go to Poland. I was a lowly MS so we couldn't go.

Mulan, I lived in Olympia and then in Seattle from 1968 until 2000 and I don't get this one. PM me if you don't want outsiders to know.
You carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them.

Remember the not-at homes?
by Thegoodgirl inthat obituary post reminded me of those awful weekday mornings knocking on entire neighborhoods of not-at-homes.
i remember one particular neighborhood in florida where it was one big trailer park of "snowbirds" who would move back up north for the summer.
however, being the thorough jws that we were, we would knock on every single door, leaving magazines, etc, even if the awnings were down and it was obvious no one would be livng there for months.

I kept track of hot-at-homes scrupulously. I figured if I called back on the same day at the same time, they probably wouldn't be home again and I wouldn't have to talk to anyone. If there was anything that made me uncomfortable it was going door to door. One Monday evening another "brother " and I worked not-at-homes. Everyone was home, not interested, of course. Never did that again.

Love11, no I didn't think you were implying I was a rascist. I was just acknowledging that, yes, there is a rascist element that one feels when one is in another country. Your comments and experiences are appreciated.

Love11, when I first read your post I thought I wasn't talking about race; however, after thinking a moment really there is a racial element. I've spent all my life priding myself for being non-rascist. If someone made a rascist remark I've always been one to take issue with it. However, after living in Mexico for two years I have a little different attitude. I hope I'm not rascist, but at the same time I have a lot more understanding as to why rascism exists.

Chrisvance... re: accents... website
by candidlynuts inhttp://www.research.att.com/projects/tts/demo.html
you type in text then chose an accent or language to hear it in.
kinda lame but was fun to play with for a few minutes.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm in Puebla which is about 75 miles east of Mexico City. Poblanos have their own particular accent. One taxi driver, who is from Veracruz, told me that it's a joke among those who live in Puebla but are from other parts of Mexico that Poblanos can only speak among themselves.
