besides being raised in the religion , why do people become jws?

Fantasy promises, a great social network and belonging - thinking that your life would have greater meaning.

That's what gets them originally but as above no healthy well adjusted person with healthy self respect would join because they don't need congrats from others to be a good person, only the despots do otherwise the rest had no choice as children and you get stuck there out of guilt for family or friends.

It's not till later on you see the damage from the cult control. I have two very well balanced kids 22 and 19 who luckily for them did not get the brainfuck for too long - yay

Shunning vs. Silent Treatment

i was thinking this morning in context with the shunning practice- which we all know is a degrading and abusive routine carried out among all brainwashed jw's to those who have sinned/left the org etc.. so with that in mind, how does shunning differ from the silent treatment to jw's?

both are similar in definition... silent treatment.

: an act of completely ignoring a person or thing by resort to silence especially as a means of expressing contempt or disapproval.shun, shunning: persistently avoid, ignore, or reject (someone or something) through antipathy or caution.based on jw teachings which i stupidly accepted back when i was asleep and under mind control, i didn't give it two thoughts on how both acts are related.. i do remember an article in a wt which spoke of how the silent treatment is a harsh and abusive form of discipline, but then they twist it back and claim that shunning is a loving provision?

For years my brother has put up the label of being disfellowshipped /excommunicated ( same difference ) but then they have to make them selves different from the rest of religions and use their own label that still means shunning. Its a disgraceful way to control and yet in the teaching of the cult this person is meant to be treated as a 'man of the nations' but there arrogance cannot even let them do this.

The difference of being 'bought' up with the cult is the indoctrination gets into your very cells vs the brainwashing that affects newcomers. Same thing but worse when your informative years of your brain growth are filled with the promises of illusion.

Its sad but in reality we did not have the mental strength to know better. Yes it takes time to believe we are 'enough' but the truth is we are. ( Not their version of the brilliant marketing campaign the 'truth')!! Its 20 years since I stepped into their church, totally at ease within that but my family still feels like I'm missing out, very sad really but we are sooo Enough. Just keep on believing in your own goodness Raven

Did judge Rutherford piss off Hitler

then things changed for the jws after rutherford mailed a letter to hitler bragging about jehovahs kingdom on earth.. so can we add this to the bloodshed that that the watchtower corp is responsible for?.

Of course we can add it to the bloodshed. But hang on we were told these stories of how faithful these sheeple were during such a tribulation and we should be like them in the big A. You know stick in there because we are saved..

i watched this video and i have to say that this guy really creeps me out.

his slow and methodical gestures coupled with with his over-annuciation of every word makes him appear absolutely crazy!.

Brilliant movie. It's been out a while now but one of those movies that stay in your mind a while - you reconsider things that happened in it. Worth seeing for sure.

Watchtower's deadline to appeal

the conti verdict was made in mid-april.

presumably, the wt&ts has until a certain date to decide whether to take the case to supreme court or not.

does anyone know how long this period is from the date of the court's decision?

More Young Indoctrination

not sure how wide spread this is, but from my social media land i saw 2 separate videos, from two halls in completely different towns featuring their kids having a demonstration on the service meeting (i am guessing last night as i didn't go).

these kids are really young!

maybe this was just a coincidence at first i thought it was the same video then realized theses people live hundreds of miles apart.

Disgusting. No part of the world but happy to use technology to promote that bullshit to the gullible minds of the youth, It's just so cringe worthy.

Seriously how old were those kids? 7? Of course they will do it because they want to please but then so do puppies.

This site helped me after so many years get rid of some stories that to be fair, no one else would understand and yet there are so may on here that are still attending. I understand the guilt with family etc. but still not sure why you put yourselves through it. When the mind fade stops being imputed then you will start to heal. My 2cents worth.

"the truth" is that you must be in 'the truth' and spend every waking moment you have getting others in 'the truth'.

anything the governing body says to do is 'the truth'.
