Watchtower's response to Royal Commission shows they have learned nothing and will do nothing
by wannaexit ini've quickly read through watchtower's submission to the royal commission.
seems like they aren't planning to change policy anytime soon.
they are critical of how the royal commission handled the situation.. the tone is of the submission is shear arrogance.

I've actually been told by a JW that Jehovah is allowing these things to occur the same way he allowed Saul to continue despite him no longer being anointed. Jehovah is "allowing" JW's loyalty to be tested. -

Even if they changed it to say that elders should inform the parents and/or victim of their right to report the abuse, that would have a HUGE impact. This would change many JWs attitude toward reporting the crime and of those who choose to report the crime.
Marvin Shilmer-
What you suggest is already Watchtower policy.
It's not. They only say that the elders are not to discourage them from going to the police. There is no mandate for the elders to even inform the parents or abused of their right to go to the police.

Impact of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on JW policies and procedures
by steve2 inthe royal commission is not yet over.
the summary of findings on jws is not the end of the story.
the legal process is unfolding and the only open question is the extent to which jw organization in australia will be legally mandated to change its policies and procedures on child sexual abuse.. (on the question of shunning those who leave, the commission is well intended but has strayed beyond its legal brief.

They'll only change once it affects their bottom line. They've proven that over and over (the 2012 letter to the BoE is an example). I can't wait for the commission to wrap up and force change through monetary measures. -

The passive policy Watchtower touts 'it is each members absolute right to report...' blah, blah, blah betrays something more sinister given the ease of an active policy that 'we encourage victims of child molestation to report their victimization to local authorities...'
Even if they changed it to say that elders should inform the parents and/or victim of their right to report the abuse, that would have a HUGE impact. This would change many JWs attitude toward reporting the crime and of those who choose to report the crime.

When I read the part of the RC findings commenting on the biblical basis for some of their beliefs I thought immediately "that is something the WTS will pick up on"
Since their policies are loosely based on the bible, I think the ARC was trying to show them (and the world) that there is a biblical basis for adjusting policy. If they solely focused on policy, the JW response would have been that they follow the bible, that their policies are bible based, and that freedom of religion allows them to establish policies as they see fit. Of course they can come back that their interpretation is correct. All religions would. The ARC has demonstrated that the WT is unwilling to change even when there is ambiguity.

Too funny. I think Splane should be the one saying "Redefinition" and TMIII saying "Ad Hominem". -

OK, guys, i just watched the video, lol. WTF was that? First of all, can someone PLEASE tell me, is this an ACTUAL Watchtower video? Or is this a joke? Or did someone compile a bunch of clips together? What is/was the purpose of the video? If it IS aWatchtower video, does anybody know what they are saying, or what the point is of it? Lol, i appreciate it.
It is an actual WT video. It was the ASL translation of the WT study article. The WT study article in English was very explicit. In ASL, things are very literal so the translation of that article looks disturbing to those that are not in ASL. To be fair, the ASL translation of that article was no more disturbing to a deaf person than the English or other spoken language article was to a hearing person.
To those who are unfamiliar with ASL, the gestures appear crude but they are a part of the ASL vocabulary. I'm not sticking up for the org for publishing that article. They probably shouldn't have published it in any language.

Director of XYZ Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Inc.
by cognisonance ini googled my childhood best friend that i grew up with in the cult.
he's my age and has shunned me for the past 4 years despite my efforts to reach out to him.today, i noticed a listing online that states he is a director of his congregation.
i suppose only elders can fill this position (he wasn't an elder when i was a jw).

Each congregation is usually setup as a corporation as well. Some of the elders will hold titles in the corporation in order to transact business (pay bills, setup bank account, apply for tax-free status, etc.) -

Jehovah's Witnesses May Have Peaked in Membership at 8 Million (+/-)
by OnTheWayOut ini don't have all the details of their new "service year" numbers, but i have read enough on jwn to state my opinion pretty strongly.. memorial attendance for 2015 was down.while they kept saying they were going to build a bunch of new kingdom halls, and everybody is still in recovery from watchtower taking all the local money away, they say pretty much that there isn't enough money to build new kingdom halls.putting gb members on the videos at jw .
org has allowed people to really put a face and personality to these guys and remove the mystery of how they should be such deeply spiritual serious men.
instead they see silly thoughts about tight pants and, really everything that comes out of lett's mouth is delivered ultra-goofy, along with the money reports.. the gb lost credibility a little more with every new light that shone down, with the strangest one being "overlapping generation.

Looking at the trend from the 70s to 80s, they had a dip after the '75 debacle but recovered very well by pushing the idea that the end was close because of the understanding that the generation of 1914 would not pass away and a generation was 70 - 80 years. I don't see them recovering the same way they did in the 80s. They would have to come up with some clear idea that the end was within the next 10 - 20 years in order to work JWs into a frenzy. The only thing that may work is if they start pushing the idea that Noah preached for 120 years and 120 years from 1914 is 2034.
