Cart Witnessing - Thrilling! Productive! Epic! Er.....um, well, not so much.....

talked with a pioneer recently, she was recounting her first experience with cart witnessing.. she brought the subject up, was going on & on & on & on about how wonderful the experience was, and how great, and how she enjoyed it so much, and it was so wonderful, and oh jehovah's blessing, and on and on and on...... a few questions to her revealed what really happened:.

-- a jw who owns a small restaurant in a strip mall allows jws to set up their cart outside his restaurant.

-- the restaurant is tucked pretty far out of the way, not prominent at all.

It all started by some JW's setting up tables in flea markets and even trade shows. They had some initial success from the stories that I heard. The COs then started encouraging other congregations to do the same. Finally the branch got involved and decided to regulate everything.

I won't say how I know because it may out me, but the WTB$ sources all this stuff, the carts, chairs for halls, etc., from China. They have warehouses there and everything. Of course it's all hush-hush and run under different corporations.

so this weekend there was a part about not following jesus at a distance.

the speaker made a big point of stating that any baptized jw male who was not either appointed ms/elder, or at the very least "reaching out" actively, was in fact following jesus at a distance.

he said that the only way to live through the big a was to follow jesus closely.

Is not the proportion of men to women in the org something like 3.5 to 6.5? With this policy, it seems in the new world this might be something like 1 to 10...Hell, with that ratio, maybe I'll go back!

I thought the same thing! Maybe I should stay and make it to elder. After the big A, the ratio of women to men will be so high that Jehovah will have to allow polygamy! The only problem is that I have keep parroting all the stuff that the GB spout and of course there teachings are false.

the gb moved to patterson and are conducting business from there, right?

they are not printing as much literature as they once were and they are still operating walkill for the magazines...er a ....pamphlets.

That's true, but for me it really doesn't fit for an organization that says the end is coming soon. They could have downsized in Brooklyn and sold off the properties they didn't need.

They always sanitize the reasons for their decisions, like they did with changing to the donation arrangement for publications and kingdom hall loans.

... and Patterson, NY, and Wallkill, NY, and ...

It was eye-opening to me when I went on a tour with a bethelite and he pointed out all the smaller and lesser-known properties that WT owns in Brooklyn. There are a lot of single family homes that are also owned and have been used for years to house doctors, lawyers, and others with children who were given special treatment just because their services were needed. I also wouldn't be surprised for them to keep some of those smaller properties in Brooklyn because one member of the GB confided to this bethelite that he would like to have a place for those flying in from other branches to stay and not have to travel all the way to Warwick, Wallkill, or Patterson after a long flight.

if you had to pinpoint the time or experience that finally made you open your eyes, what would it be?.

i think for me it was the time i saw my dad shun his brother who he had not seen in decades just because he was a da'ed jw.

i thought to my self "no way jesus would do that.

I really like Dave Ramsey's financial advice. It's not always practical or possible, but it is best to live with little to no debt. In business, debt can be very useful, but personally debt makes little sense.

Hearing non-JW's experiences and blessings that were the same as the blessings that JWs always claimed also helped me wake up. It wasn't the eye-opening moment, but it started a crack.

Cart witnessing can be done by anyone, but you are supposed to have been through the "training" and be approved by your boe. The training is mostly that you're not supposed to approach people, you are supposed to smile, and stand several feet away from the cart so as not to scare someone off who may want to take something. Only once someone stops and approaches the cart should you engage them. That's the gist of the training.

Canada Branch Finances - What's Going On?

an update on the canada branch hasn't been made (i think).. year-over-year, canada's equity decreased by 11 million in 2012, 17 million in 2013.. however, the 2014 report shows a huge increase (20 million) in the cost of "purchased supplies.

" with the shrinkage of the mags, and the push to online, how the heck did this go from 39 million to 58 million?.

even with this number, the equity in 2014 went down by a staggering 56 million.. what the heck is going on?.

Even if the change was due to a tax law change in Canada, the WTS MO is to always make changes appear as if they are doing for a good reason. They want to always cast themselves in a favorable light and not admit that they are dodging taxes or making changes because they are forced to. They did the same thing with removing the charge for the literature. It was presented as if this was a streamlined arrangement to the congregation, but in reality it was to dodge taxes on the sold literature. Even the change in blood fractions was likely due to pressure from the outside and not some 'revelation' or 'new understanding'.

The same applies with this change. If they had only made the change in Canada, then it would have been readily apparent that the change was to dodge taxes. By making the change globally, they can spin this as a blessing from Jehovah and a way to equalize.

From my latest tour at Bethel, I was told the move was to differentiate the World Headquarters from the US branch. It's really nothing more than a corporate reorg. In the past the US branch was the World HQ. Now they are setting them up as separate and distinct. The US branch can focus on the US and the World HQ will focus on coordinating all of the branches.
