Stressful Session with Uber-Zealous Parents--The Mermaid needs a hug!

okay, for those of you who don't know, i was raised jw by really great though uber-zealous parents.

i'm now an adult and have been inactive for about two years due a bunch of reasons, the primary one (or at least the one that got the ball rolling) being the pathological intellectual dishonesty of the wt in how it handles secular quotes and citations.

anyway, my parents are aware of all that and have left the issue alone for about the last year.

Damn! I'm too late for the group hug. When I was a witness and see the list to identify a cult, I would say, "but there are reasons we do this." After I went to college and took critical thinking, it does become an issue of, ok, when does their BS reasoning stop? Is rational, logical thought really a tool of Satan? Hmmmmm......

i thought this was so insanely stupid that it made it funny, so i had to share.

living in "the bible belt", i meet people with this sort of mentality all the time but this guy takes the cake!

let's all applaud this guy for reaching new lows in his preachy narrow-mindedness that it was barely interesting enough that a reporter was desperate enough for a story wrote about it.. http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/08/florida_pastor_asks_why_atheis.html.

Something I struggle with mentally. Anyone Else?

Another movie I think about when thinking about the witnesses is Malcolm X. Malcolm was in jail and through Islam turned his life around. Later he found out his mentor was a fraud. But he still had the Islam faith to fall back on. Witnesses are taught how horrible and disgusting every other religion is. When the veil is lifted, for many there is nothing to fall back to. I can see people being religious and using religion as a calming force in their life but anymore I view JW's as a worthless religion(cult) devoid of any benefit whatsoever. (basing what I know about Malcolm X and Islam on the movie and in no way am I endorsing becoming Islamic)
