Welcome!
sitting through this weeks wt study.
paragraph came up about how "a fire came out from jah & consumed (korah and) the 250 men offering the incense".
i said to myself this supposedly happened couple of thousand years ago.
What would happen now if some guy built an alter and put his son up there and was about to kill him because god told him too?
I guess this happens all the time in the middle east(killing daughters because they got raped and no longer virgins), but seriously, a lot of stuff in the bible sounds like someone was either on drugs or had some mental issues. Some of the stories are trying to tell some moral that might have made sense at some point....
as i am typing this post i am constantly looking over my shoulder to see if anybody is at my bedroom door lol guys i know i am stuck in a a cult.
but this s*** is f****** crazy!!!!.
w13 11/15 p.16 par.17 -- " at that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
Everytime I see the heading of this thread it reminds me of The Matrix when Neo has the bug sucked out of his stomach.
zambia: fulfill promises ... jehovah's witnesses counsel politicianstimes of zambia.
august 23, 2014. by chatula kampo.
a top jehovah's witnesses' world leader has bemoaned politicians' failure to fulfill campaign promises.. stephen lett, who gave a keynote speech at the on-going convention held at levy mwanawasa stadium in ndola, said politicians needed to meet the aspirations of people who vote them into public offices.. meanwhile, conversion overseer john mashilipa has urged fellow witnesses to respect the government of the day, obedient and continue remaining non-partisan.. in the keynote address streamed live from solwezi district in the north-western province, mr lett, one of the seven members of the world governing body said electorates expected much from the people they vote for.. "there is need for politicians to fulfill their promises to their voters once they assumed power," he said.. he observed that most politicians failed to fulfill promises to their voters who had high expectations.. "politicians usually promise a moon and not deliver to their promises, this is disappointing to the voters who have high expectations," he said.. mr mashilipa said believers needed to seek god's kingdom which he said never fails, unlike human governance.. this year's conversion attracted a historic attendance of more than 40,000 people from across the five districts in the province namely; ndola, kitwe, luanshya, mufulira, kalushi and chambishi.. gathered under the theme 'keep seeking first god's kingdom', witnesses filled the stadium and those who could not find seats monitored proceedings from outside.
I was promised a few things by the WT. Do I get to vote the GB out?
want to know how a lie can turn into a compliment?
only in the jw mindset!!!.
we got called into the dreaded back room after meeting to find two elders wanting to discuss a 'serious' matter with us.
I sure would use this to pull the "I'm stumbled" card.
i've picked up two that stood out to me but i'm sure others will have noticed more:.
he gave an illustration about fearing god and he said it is like a wife who has spent all day preparing the evening meal for her husband and she hears him come home and perhaps she is trembling a bit out of fear that he might not like the meal she has cooked for him....!!!!!!!!????.
the other was about verbal abuse and how it should not be used but rather than site the effect it has or the forms it can take he said that we shouldn't call each other " dumb dumb" or "knuckle head" .
Well the little woman better be afraid that I don't like her cookin'!
*reaches over my gut to pull up my pants Chris Farley style*
*also to be read in Farley's voice*
i got woken up by a very strong quake at 3:30 this morning.
it was 6.0 centered about ten miles from my house, up in napa, ca.
we had no damage, but it definitely gets you it of bed!
I live a little over an hour drive north of Napa and felt nothing. I was awake talking to a friend of mine so it wasn't like I just slept through it. All my Santa Rosa friends' Facebook pages exploded.
in my 20 years of being in this cult i was always struck at how alot of ones in my immediate hall never really talked to me or tried to get to know me.
i know it is a two way street & i always tried to rbe nice & polite to everyone.
i am shy person but i went beyond what i was comfortable with in trying to be likeable!.
They are worried that someone they might be friends with will get themselved disfellowshipped. So therefore, why bother making new friends?
(probably already been said)
I think this is a good thing. Every time someone goes to court and they say, "why no, we don't shun anyone." Articles like this can be brought out and the opposing council can say, "please explain."
in the 80's and 90's (maybe even earlier) i remember hearing lots of witnesses talk about "demon attacks".
whether it was someone studying the bible who then started having strange things happen in their house to people bringing stuff home from yard sales and getting personal attacks and horrible dreams resulting in them dystroying stuff they brought home or getting rid of it.. .
i also remember hearing a sister say she had to pray in a home with a study because the study started to get attacked.
@New Worldy Translation: I almost started a thread a while ago to see if anyone else had heard that crazy story.
The way I heard it though was that some witnesses came across some palm reader in field service. The palm reader and all his/her fellow spiritist were all pissed at the witnesses because the demons were ignoring them so the could break up witness marriages.
I lived in Utah at the time and it was told as if this happened up in Salt Lake City.
