  as you may know, this makes me very happy.

  ban on religious circumcision.

  relate to a ban in all probability will not stop the millennium old core tradition in many parts of islam and especially judaism.

  at the last assembly i attended in 2005 the cost was $11,000 per day in yuba city (just over two hours away from our circuit).

  this always seemed a bit high for a facility that was built on donated land and whose construction loan had been paid off for 20 years.. i just looked up the cost to rent the redding civic center, which is just as nice if not nicer and a whole lot closer for our circuit, and it only costs $2,500 a day plus $250 for consumables (parking included).

  if it would save the brother's and sister's $8,250 a day and they could have the assembly locally why wouldn't they do it?.

  I don't know what they do now but here in Ukiah back in the early 90s, sometimes we made the 2 hour trek over to Yuba City and sometimes they would rent the local fair grounds. Always a relief to drive the 5 minutes to an assembly instead of all the way over there.

  You know what's more a relief? never worrying about ever going to an assembly again.

  Got my memorial invite yesterday...

  i wasn't sure how this would be handled since the elders haven't harassed me as much as a lot of others have gotten, plus we live a ways outside of the territory so i figured there was a shot they'd leave me alone since it's inconvenient.

  guess not.

  two elders showed up unannounced toward the end of their recruiting shift.

  Since JWs are legends in their own minds and are coming from a place of ultimate authority, I think they think all they need to do for "encouragement" is say, "I know I'd sure love to see you there." In their minds there is never a reason to leave so the problem is you and so to them, "you know in your heart it's The Truth(tm)" so I think they get lazy when trying to encourage former members.

  My aunt and uncle stopped by to see me a couple years ago and after an hour visit he said, "you know, Armageddon is still coming anytime now." Because he said that I know they counted their time for the whole hour.

  Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?

  from the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.

  beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.

  i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .

  I made a facebook post a couple years ago that went something like: Thank god for websites like Song meanings .com so I can finally know what KISS's Rock And Roll All Night is about.

  I deleted it after someone didn't get the joke and explained that is was probably about groupies.

  X-Men Apocalypse & Yahweh

  i have watched the trailer for this movie , and the bad guy in this makes the statement something like this, when asked who are you ?

  his reply , i have been called many names over time , and yahweh was one of them .. will jw.org ban the jdubs from seeing it ?

  being not suitable for a christian ?

  Smiddy- You're thinking of the DC Captain Marvel/Shazam. DC sued the creators of Captain Marvel saying he was too much a copy of Superman. They won but eventually bought the character.

  They didn't do anything with the character for so long that Marvel Comics eventually came out with their Captain Marvel who was an alien Kree warrior.

  Getting back to the X-Men, pretty much all super-heroes are banned by the JWs. Someone told my mom once when I was a kid buying them that the "uncanny" that's in the title, The Uncanny X-Men is a demon word. One of my favorites was Daredevil and they used the logic, "There's the word devil right there in the title!"

  No JW connection at all that I know of.

  The Prince connection was back in the early 80's. She was originally supposed to play the part that Apollonia got in Purple Rain but that fell through.

  She got all religious after she nearly died from drug abuse in the early 90's.

  Anyone else used to hear that RUSH stood for Rules Under Satan's Hand? I swear, one can make an acronym out of anything.

  My mom was giving me crap one time for buying a Joe Satriani tape because his last name had the letters S, A, T, A, and N.

  I also remember a couple pages that that was going around whenever anyone wanted to be critical of music. I wish I could remember more but it listed whoever was gay, had ever done drugs or got drunk or like The Police, used a word like "Mephistopheles" in Wrapped Around Your Finger. I wish I had a copy of that now.

  Word got to the elders that 3 of my friends and I were going to one of those "rock concerts". We were all hauled into the back room and told how we were supposed to be role models for all the younger ones (we were all 20 or so at the time) and also worried we were going to try the pot at such a worldly place.

  One of us backed out but me and two others went. Epic show of Deep Purple with the classic Blackmore, Gillan, Lord, Paice and Glover line-up.

  We went to a bunch of other shows over the year. Never was a word mentioned to anyone so no need for further counselling.

  whats your take? When someone asks my wife what religion she is, she seems embarrassed to say she is a JW.

  so thinking back about the times when someone has asked my wife what religion she is.

  she sheepishly and seems almost embarrassed to say she is a jehovah witness.

  when someone asks me, i just say i am a christian.
