Noah's Ark
by Darkknight757 inso i'm reading the book "the atheist book of bible stories" and something just occurred to me.. noahs ark rested on the top of mount ararat.
how the hell did all the land animals, dinosaurs and other monsters get to ground level?
did noah and his family just push them off the mountain and hope for the best?

I'm just going to continue knitting my shawl and look over my glasses condescendingly and shake my head at you all not accepting one of gods great miracles. -

If I've been testy lately, here's why.
by cappytan inmy parents are visiting for not-thanksgiving.
dad started bringing up spiritual stuff and i almost screwed up my fade.. it's so hard to have a genuine discussion about the issues in the organization when you have become an atheist.
it feels icky and disgusting to have to pretend and nod your head at such platitudes as "you just need to have faith"..."trust in jehovah"..."jehovah will correct it"..."remember ray franz?

Must be maddening.
How does he think that jehovah took care of Ray and what was corrected?

Cracked under pressure
by breezy ina big problem i have always had when talking about anything related to jw teachings, is that i get aggravated and frustrated when logical black and white concepts/scriptures are not seen/interpreted in a logical way.
it really frustrates me having to hear '' oh no this does not apply here '' in every scripture that i bring to my parents attention.
starting from when i was 16 to about 20, my frustrations would lead to these anger fits.

Have you looked into maybe taking a critical thinking class? Identifying logical flaws helps. Of course it sounds like it might go over your folks heads but for your own sake it might help. -

Did I imagine a brief thaw in the Watchtower injunction against going to university?
by slimboyfat inokay i was talking to an elder and he said me going to university was a bad idea and i should have listened to the society and not gone.
but i said that when i went to university the watchtower was saying it might not be a bad idea to go to, as long as you do it for the "right reasons", don't associate with worldly people, and keep clear of "damaging ideas".
but basically they said it was okay, in this "changing world" and job market to go to university.

They never ease up on anything.
If it appears that they are on any subject matter its so they can use it in a court case to say, "But look, we said this here, so we aren't insane."
Whether it be for blood, child custody cases, education or a number of other things, everyone in the hall knows the real score.
.....and I know saying that I come off as some conspiracy theory nut. But it isn't hard to find them saying the complete opposite a few weeks later.

Are JWs trying to make dysfunctional kids and destroy their ability to live normal lives?
by C0ntr013r inare jws trying to make dysfunctional kids that wont "fit" in normal society so they will "return to jehovah"?
because there have been many stories about young people who have been out in the world only to find how bad it was and how correct the org was.. a good jw kid with "good" jw parents will have many big issues, some examples:.
fear of demons (fear, misfit).

I'm surprised I've never seen this thread before. Great OP and posts.
Someone could take these topics and expand on them and write a book. It would be great to see a psychologist write it so it wouldn't be dismissed as "just a bunch of bitter apostates" even though the JWs would still dismiss it.
One thing I noticed when I first got on the internet on other ex-jw sites that I've never seen here, is the superiority/inferiority complex that is caused by the org. Applies to all but kids as well. "You are one of the few people on earth that god loves because only you and a select few are doing his will. Everybody but you will be dead really really soon. Meanwhile, everybody hates you because you serve the one true god." Tends to mess with a kids mind.
One of the big problems I have with them also is how they are ignorant to actual child welfare. Considering how they want to micro manage all members lives, all they do is throw a few bible quotes around, "don't spare the rod" and their go to solution for everything, "pray more, go in service more, don't miss meetings and do more personal study."

83,000 theocratic facilites?
by average joe ina bethelite was telling me that there are 83,000 theocratic facilities world wide.
he compared that to 35,000 mcdonalds and 21,000 starbucks roughly to show the size of the theocratic organization.
i am not sure where the 83,000 comes from what would he be counting?

Starbucks has only been around for a couple decades and they have 21,000 coffee houses? This is clearly a sign that they are being directed by holy spirit! -

Should I associate with this person?
by stuckinarut2 inso there is a guy who wants me to associate with him.
but there are some strange things about him, such as:.
he hears "direction from unseen" forces.. he thinks the idea of slavery was ok.. he likes killing animals and splashing their blood around and making huge bonfires of carcasses smoke all day long.. he has one wife, or maybe two, but is ok with having lots of other sleeping partners as well.. he likes another person who slept with his own daughters.. he thinks women should be subservient and "keep their place".. he frowns on education.. he thinks killing in a war is ok if they deserve it...even babies should be killed.. he is often asking for money.. he thinks that pyramids foretell the future, and that only a few people can explain divine truths to him, except their explanations have changes many, many times...often contradicting other teachings.... etc..... get it?

Westboro baptists protesting Kim Davis
by JeffT inwords fail me .... http://religiondispatches.org/god-hates-nags-why-in-gods-name-is-westboro-protesting-kim-davis/god hates nags: why in gods name is westboro protesting kim davismembers of the infamously anti-gay westboro baptist church (wbc) arrived in morehead, kentucky today to picket the rowan county courthouse, workplace of kim davis, the county clerk and religious liberty martyr who rose to fame by refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples citing gods authority.daviss religious right credentials are solid.
her stand for religious liberty has resulted in the support of four presidential hopefulsted cruz, mike huckabee, bobby jindal, and rand paula visit with the pope, and comparisons to rosa parks.
plenty of others opposed davis, of course, both because of her anti-gay stance and because of her refusal to do the job she took an oath to do.
