Friday, You asked if other Churches train their members. I'm posting a link to the website of First Baptist Church Orlando. It's where I used to attend before moving. It lists the classes available (not required) for anyone in the community.
additional new stories with more information about the bryant tragity can be found on this link to the news register of mcminnville oregon.. http://www.newsregister.com.
Just one quick point I left out. Spreading the gospel should not come from someone cracking the whip to make sure you perform. The real motivation should come from the heart, not counting time and making literature placements.
Actually, I am new to my area, and am rarely home, so I can't speak to the issue of who goes from door to door here. In my previous location of over 20 years, the Baptist Churches do send people out from door to door in the community. I remember my first visit by Baptists. I was still a dub, and my reaction was kinda funny, looking back. I thought...how dare they...we're the only ones who do that. I didn't invite them in, told them I wasn't interested. Life lesson learned. My initial point is that the door to door work is not an efficient way of contacting people, and I illustrated it with a couple of my own experiences. The proof is in the pudding. Growth rate among JW? Not impressive at all. Mostly due to having children, but that's a whole new subject.
I wasn't attacking you when I asked why you don't go from door to door. You said that the meetings were an expression of true worship, and responding to me you said that the meetings were for training for ministry. Soooo, if you don't participate in this, are you worshiping at all? I'm just trying to understand your point.

Yadirf, Sorry I didn't respond last night. Had to leave to go to a family party. Door to door really is the least efficient way to reach people today. I started to notice this before I left the borg. In an hour each pair of witnesses would talk to maybe one or two people. Tops. Last summer, I was sitting out in the yard enjoying the day. I saw 2 witnesses walking sloooowly up the street toward me. This was during the week and I was the only one home. Everyone else was at work. I have a good view of the block from here. No one answered at any door on the street. It took them over an hour to do the houses visible to me. In this hour, the only one these 2 witnesses encountered was me. Yes they did talk to me (I'm new to this area, and they didn't know me yet) No, I wasn't mean. Did give them something to think about though. Not a very productive morning for them. Such is the scenario in most areas. To take it a step further, my second generation elder father never brought anyone into the borg in his 68 years. My mother brought in a few. My grandfather, and anointed grandmother never brought in anyone exept their 2 children. My aunt and DO uncle didn't bring in anyone either! Me? Thankfully none. Churches have a much more effective means of reaching people. Yes, they use the media, and community outreaches that actually help people. Friends of mine go yearly on trips to bring medicine and the gospel to remote parts of the globe. They bring an interpreter with them. Another friend is a nurse/missionary in Togo, Africa. Churches do offer Bible studies. One I attended before moving even offered classes in Greek as well as training for ministry. They also offered parenting classes, and support groups for cancer patients. The list was huge! These classes were optional, made available for any who wanted or needed them. Extremely well attended too.
Hmmm, read a post that said you don't go door to door. Why? And, how do you know Christians have never come to your door. Are you always home?
Anyway, this post is getting too long. I'll end it here.
Yadirf, Another thought. The borg is so busy "training" its members to go from door to door, which in this day and age is the absolutely least efficient way to contact people. Why not use tv, or the internet (snicker) radio, etc. That is, if the real purpose is to reach people. Other churches use means that reach more people in an hour than witnesses reach in a month in all of North America. Of course, that would cost money.
You made my point for me. You called it true worship. Worship is not classroom work, and it's not knocking on doors. Secondly the borg does not respect truth. It distorts it, changes it, covers it up, and then expects all of its followers to march in tune. And yes, the Churches I visited (many different denominations) do train their members for ministry all over the world. They also help the poor and the sick. I was amazed, because I had been taught that jws were the only ones preaching worldwide. Wrong!!!!! There were a huge number of misconceptions I had about non witnesses.
Yadirf, I don't see how you could possibly think that the borg represents true worship. I was a witness for nearly 40 years, and I had no idea what worship meant. The meetings are not worship services by any streach of the imagination. I didn't know what worship was until I visited various Christian Churches.
