i know a bunch of you have done lots of public speaking, lectures etc.
this is not my strong point.
i really am interested in your little nuggets of wisdom here; what do you do to reign in a bunch of unruly students and make 'em enthralled???

Hi Kudra,
As part of my job, I teach CEU seminars for Architects and Engineers. I have groups of anywhere from 1 to 50. I taught one today.
The big thing is to relax. Show up a little early and get comfortable in the space. Just be yourself. Use humor whenever possible. The material I teach is technical stuff that would bore a lot of people. I have to be really creative to make it interesting. Involve them in the discussion. Ask questions. Watch their reactions. Be responsive...to them. Make eye contact. I try to keep it very informal so they feel comfortable. Keep it moving. Put energy into it...move around a bit. Have a good time..really...it's just a matter of mindset.
If you like your subject matter, it will show. I usually bring some giveaways...simple things like scales or pens or notepads...(architects never have enough of these) I give them to the ones who answer a tough question or whatever. Sounds silly, but it really works....even with a group of professional men & women.
Smile at them. They will usually respond in kind...and you will all relax.
Roll with the punches. At my seminar today, the caterer delivered the lunch to the wrong address. (about 1/2 mile away) There are hundreds of Architectural firms in Boston... they got confused. I was on the phone trying to resolve the issue....at least a dozen phone calls and 1 hour later they managed to find the correct address. I had arrived 1 hour early so had enough time to resolve the mess...all the while setting up for the presentation. We started on time. Obviously I was a little flustered...but just made a joke out of the whole thing...and got everyone laughing before we started.
You can do it. You have to believe you can do it. That is key.
You'll do great!

i don't think we've had one for a while, i can't find the last one anyway!
so just to satisfy my curiosity it would be great to see some of your photos, of you, your family even your pets (they're family too!
) then i'll know if any of you do look like your avatars cos that's what i'm always wondering!
My son and his new bride. They got married on the beach in North Carolina in June.

my daughter was on her way to work last week and stopped for a milkshake at a fast food restaurant.
they were caught on tape using the slop bucket they used for cleaning bathrooms etc.
to empty out the milkshake machine while they cleaned it, and then pour the milkshake mix (in the contaminated slop bucket) back into the machine.. apparently there was also a group of kids from an after school program that had a party there that same day.
Update:
The restaurant that caused this mess is very close to where my daughter works. Apparently some of her coworkers know employees and former employees from the restaurant. A couple of them, when hearing what happened to my daughter have come forward to say they are willing to testify in behalf of my daughter if she chooses to take legal action. They have saod that the conditions are deplorable there...and handling of food of all kinds is unsanitary. One of them quit over the conditions. I'm not sure what she will do. I think she wants to get her sea legs back and think it through before she decides.
I won't name the restaurant, but I'm sure that no matter where in the world you live, you know the name.

Just got off of the phone with my daughter. She's feeling somewhat better...still shaky though.. I gave her all your advice. I'll keep you posted.

I'll pass along your suggestions to her. Many thanks to all of you.
I'm going to try to get some sleep. I'm wide awake but exhausted.... I have to get up very early, so I'm going to go give it a try. I may be back if I can't sleep...no use tossing and turning...

Whoa! So glad you're ok now. Seems many here have had difficult weeks. Take care of yourself!

i don't have much time to post as i'm headed back to the hospital, but my father collapsed this morning and had to be rushed to the hospital.
in a nutshell: he needs a blood transfusion as his hemoglobin is dropping (bleeding internally), but thanks to this fucking cult, that's not an option...........he'll accept the fractions but those bastards from the blood liaison committee have already shown up to ensure he doesn't cave............... for those of you who still believe, i'm asking you to say a prayer for my dad........and if anyone from crooklyn is reading this: you better hope my father doesn't die due to your fucked up rules, .
Way to go Mary! Glad your dad is doing better.
