i looked out the window...and saw this.
i'm not sure how they got this past the building inspector...but there is a house atop the building next door....complete with an oriental garden.

What surprised me in this article was that residents of Brooklyn Heights were never approached with the magazines... Door to door was never practiced in Brooklyn Heights.
The author of the article made the point that here resides the headquarters of the Watchtower, whose followers are known for knocking on doors all over the world, but in their own backyard, none of their neighbors were called on.

the article in the independent about the use of the term "mentally diseased" by the watchtower society is really gaining momentum.

i was officially diagnosed today.
started out a little over a week ago with pain in my back, and a week ago the rash appeared.
according to the dr, it seems i have been through the worst, and should clear in a week or so.
Well... the shingles are gone. I do have a little residual nerve pain, but it's less every day.
It has been an eventfull month. My granddaughter stayed with me for a little more than a month. Brought her back to Florida by train. (she can't fly... her doctor wants an MRI before she flies just to be safe, and I didn't want to drive) The train ride was an experience... not sure I'd want to do that again. Then there was an earthquake in Virginia where my son lives... and then the hurricane this past weekend. Life is sure interesting lately.

just felt a tremor in boston and was on the phone when it happened with a coworker in dc - shook the building there :).
must be the last days!.
My son is in Stephens City VA. Couldn't get through by phone... but he posted on FB that he and his wife and kids are ok. They were in the process of buying a new car when it hit....
It was felt in the Boston area as well. I did a lunch presentation in Duxbury, not far from the Cape, and shortly after I left they evacuated their office because of the shaking.
I didn't feel anything...but I was driving when it hit...

any travel advice from boston natives or people who know the area well?
i will be flying into boston on my way to a cabin in maine at the end of august, and my schedule allows me the flexibility to either fly in and drive to maine immediately, or spend a day or two in the boston area.
what is a must see/must do in the boston area?
One more suggestion. Legal Seafood Test Kitchen. This is where they test new additions to Legal Seafood restaurants menu. It's small a small and trendy restaurant...but usually very crouded. Get a reservation, and be prepared to wait a bit...even with the reservation.
Oh, and Anthony's Peir 4. It has seen better days, but the last time I was there it was good. It was a Boston institution for decades...but won't be there too much longer. the property has been sold, and a whole mixed use project with condos, shopping, offices has been designed... waiting for better economic conditions.
