  JW's Not The Only Ones Persecuted

  the jw higher-ups are publicly crying over the beatings that the jw's in georgia have been receiving.. if you are an active jw, you would think that only the jw's were being persecuted and that they are fulfilling a prophecy ("they will persecute you if you follow" jesus).

  anyhow, great point. i too thought it was only the witnesses being persecuted. how misleading some things can be!

  Body piercing?

  ok.... question - what is wrong with body piercing?

  i personally feel it is a method of self expression.

  i mean, i would never go and get everthing possible pierced, but i do have 2 holes in each ear, and a newly acquired belly ring.. i got my belly done 3 weeks ago, on spring break.

  Thanks a lot eveyone.... I guess we'll see what happens. I didn't do this to be rebellious or anything, but just because it is something I have always wanted to do. I have two earing holes in each ear, and that has never been mentioned. My mom was a bit reluctant to let me get the second hole (I was 13 though), but I still got it. If anything happens of significance, I'll let you know. However, I am not expecting it to be a huge deal.... I just have to give my mom time to "come to grips with it" as my father so nicely put it :-) My dad asked if my boss had seen it yet. I said yes, and she was a bit funny about it. He said that she probably thinks that they (my parents) are losing control of me then. I responded, "Well, maybe you are...." HA! Anyhow, thanks again for your thoughts.

  Oh, Jolly - i am 19, as of last week.

  I got my belly done 3 weeks ago, on spring break. I never told my parents, I just did it. Well, I was going to tell them, but not just yet.... However, as it goes, my mom walked in on me without a shirt on today and, well, to put it lightly, flipped out! She made it a point to say a million times how dissappointed she was. She also made me show my father. My dad seemed a bit disturbed, but accepted it better, as I knew he would. Anyhow, jokingly I told my mom that i did it as a birthday present to myself. She then said, "Oh, I'm sure the elders will be real happy when they hear *that* is your explanation!" I said that there is no reason for the elders to know, and anyhow, there is nothing wrong with it...

  So, that being said, just wondering, how does the average JW feel about piercings??? Are they bad? Or are they a matter of conscience? Coud my situation possibly escalate? Some thoughts please....

  Wealthy JWs = Higher Position in the Org.?

  i've read over the past months that jws are not wealthy.

  however, i wonder if those that are wealthy, are they in a high position like elders, ms, co, do, bethelites?.

  since i know of one here at work who does have yearly travel vacations to locales like las vegas, europe and the caribean.

  Ajax - Hey.... good question. I agree with Beans. While it is true that some elders have money, others are just normal people.... Although, I do know the particular elder Mr. Biggs is talking about. I believe he is an extreme exception. All the elders in my hall are normal middle class people. The ones that can afford to go on nice vacations do not have children, so that is probably a main reason.

  JW Doctors can give Blood Transfusions.

  some doctors who are jehovahs witnesses have administered blood transfusions to persons of the world upon request.

  however, they do not do so in the case of one of jehovahs dedicated witnesses.

  Ok - I think this is an EXTREMELY interesting topic, one that I have thought of many times. I want to be a vet. I often hesitate to tell anyone from the congregation this. First reason for that would be simply because of all the schooling involved. Second reason is that animals, like humans, receive blood transfusions, and I, as the vet, would be responsible. Blood transfusions on animals can be quite complicated. They do not have the same typing as we do (A,B,AB,O) but instead can have a certain type, but then something in the configuration changes... I don't want to go into detail and bore you all. All I know is that I would have to give blood and that many in my family have asked me how i would deal with it.... Thank you Pureheart for digging up that article, as I now have something to show to people when I start to get grief about it.

  Thinking about sex at the meeting?

  when i went to the meetings, i couldn't concentrate, so i would daydream all the time.

  i noticed that most of the time i would think about sex!

  i would look at some of the young ladies and imagine having sex with them.

  puffsrule.... it's not *just* the guys who think of sex during meetings. i don't care how good a JW one claims to be, you still daydream during the meetings, and, yes gil, sex is usually the topic...
