JW Child Abuse Makes 'Private Eye'
by Joe Grundy infollowing on from the recent thread about wt losing an appeal concerning the uk charity commission (sorry, i can't do the link) i'm pleased to report that this matter is covered in the latest 'private eye' (20 march - 2 april issue).. it's a one-third page article (p.34) under the heading 'child abuse' and the headline 'silent witnesses'.
it reports the case accurately, mentions several criminal cases and the ongoing high court compensation case.
it includes some of judge mckenna's comments..

Well done Joe. Great work. Private Eye is read by a lot of MP's and those in the establishment. Good to get this problem to a wider audience. -

God's supposedly chosen earthly organization (WTS/JWS) doesn't pronounce or spell god's name correctly !!!
by Finkelstein inthis came up on terry walstrom thread topic recently and i thought it would be good to explore this further.
the jws are quite boisterous and arrogant that they use the proper name of jehovah as the divine name of god.
but a little investigation discovers something quite different.

It's strange what you know when you're in, and yet the significance doesn't sink in until you start to wake up.
I knew that Jehovah wasn't the actual name of God, but thought it was an improvement on the more vague LORD and therefore it was 'better'. But whilst I was waking up I did research and realised that Jehovah is a hybrid word. A mixture of two words (consonants of the latin version of the tetragrammaton plus the vowels of Adonai) thus making this a totally made up word!
It's also interesting that in the 60 odd years since the NWT was started, Bible Scholars and academics use 'Jehovah' less and less as Yahweh has gained ground as the more correct version of the tetragrammaton. And they quickly point out that even Yahweh is a best guess.
The penny really dropped when I was trying to think of how best to illustrate this to my mother (should it come up in conversation) and thought up this way of expressing the problem.
Lets say the exact translation of the name of God was unknown from an old language. The closest translation is Robert but an old version created by a catholic hundreds of years ago is William. Which name would one use to get 'closer' to God?
Of course one immediate problem is that God still hasn't made it clear what his name is in modern languages, but surely, at the very least, he would direct his people to use the closest one, Robert?
And there you have the problem in a nutshell for JW's. God has apparently directed his only people on earth to stop using one inaccurate version (LORD) and instead use another inaccurate version (Jehovah) whilst a more accurate version is already known (Yahweh). And the inaccurate version, Jehovah, is what he wants to be used as a witness to all the nations.

Are the USA and Russia the key actors in end time prophecy?
by scotoma inwhat's the problem with prophecy?prophecy primarily requires a pattern recognition or insightful strategy not an analytical strategy.
prophecy rarely gives names whether of empires or their rulers.
even the name of the messiah - yeshua -wasn't foretold.

Village Idiot
@ Perry:
"...Russia, in alliance with several other countries, will amass a huge army against Israel, with a view to plunder the Jews’ land."
What will tiny Israel have that the Russians will want to plunder?
Stop that Village Idiot!
Last thing this situation needs is logic and reasoning.

The chain of dominating powers doesn't go on forever. There are only four powers mentioned by Daniel. Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome.
Did Daniel mention these by name? Or do believers ascribe these nations to the four beats retrospectively?
Hmmmm?

The WT's QC seems as arrogant as one would expect from a WT QC (Mr Clayton QC - I think this is Richard Clayton QC):
I asked Mr Clayton why the Charity had not made an application to the Tribunal in time but then asked for the Tribunal proceedings to be stayed pending determination of its application by the Administrative Court. He replied, frankly “we could have but we didn’t”.

Can't remember if I answered this thread.
Couldn't stand Jim Cleary - awful man. Used to insist his host family would tape Star Trek:TNG when he was staying with them. Lots of rumours over his wife and him breaking up later.
Chris Thompson stayed with us once. Odd ball.
John Stanbridge - refused to take his shoes off in a sisters house even though she explained why, she'd just had new carpet put down. His retort "I'm not a Muslim you know".
Philip Rose - ranted about how gays 'can help it'. Oh dear. Generally hated by everyone in the cong. No one wanted to work with him in the min.
Devaston 'Danny' Henry - prat. Whined about people being tardy about sending in the time sheets.
Alan Stokes - great speaker, always got your attention.
I had soft spot for David Algar - simply for the Ronnie Corbett voice. I can remember him at Bowes Road a few years ago talking about staying away from films about boy wizards with the initials HP. "And I don't mean the sauce broovers..."

Four Blood Moons might be significant
by CharlieSmith1975 inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuqzhnx7xma.
the bible does say that the "day of jehovah" (armageddon) would be associated with the sun becoming dark followed by the moon turning to blood.
but the moon turning to blood is specific to a total lunar eclipse.

Are we heading for III World War?
by abiather inthe leaders of russia, germany, france and ukraine are slated to meet in minsk (the belarusian capital) tomorrow to discuss a ukrainian peace plan!
some countries such as hollande believe there is going to be a total war.
when they met last year in the same place, they had put forward a peace plan (a ceasefire, withdrawal of artillery, prisoner exchanges and other concessions) that were never fully implemented!

When a Witness claim the uniqueness of Bible and its accurate prophecies!
by abiather inwith the bulletin of atomic scientists moving its iconic doomsday clock up 2 minutes on 23.01.2015 (which means we are just three minutes closer to midnight in comparison to 17 minutes to midnight in 1991), and rapturewatch.net/timelines.htm predicting the end of the world as early as 2017, subject of last days is getting heated up again..
next time you have a witness boasts about the uniqueness of biblical propheciesespecially about last days, you can point the following photographic description of our times found in srimad bhagavatam, one of the ancient scriptures written even before the bible:.
1) religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day because of the powerful influence of the age of kali (age of unrigteousness).12.2.1.

That’s why all the scriptures (that include Bible and Bhagavatam) foretell about moral decline reaching a climax in the last days (which is ENTROPY in one word)
Last days = two words, not one.
You really struggle with a logical presentation of an argument.

Will my inactive JW bring our children up as a witness?
by stevepill ini have been with an in active jw for 6 years, she now wants to marry and have a child, will she want to bring a child up as a witness, she says not but any experiences?
will she start go back once we are married?
(i'm a non jw)

You need to be aware that if your wife gets involved with JW's again and your child falls seriously ill, your wife will not want them to have a blood transfusion. Even if that means they die. And your wife would also want to die rather than have a transfusion.
The horror of this is highlighted on the front cover of a JW magazine called the Awake:
Below is a article about this issue from an excellent website called JWFacts:
http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/blood-transfusions.php
Many times this challenge comes along. JW's who 'drift away' are vulnerable to getting involved as they never research their faiths teachings. Having children seems to encourage some to return. Of course it's impossible to know what your partner will do, but unless they learn the truth about The Truth (The Truth is a phrase JW's use to describe their faith) they may end up getting pulled back in.
Points to ponder.
