  Joseph and his generation

  so the wt used ex 1:6 to define a generation from the very beginning.

  then in the this september broadcast the same person (splain) who spent 20 min with charts to explain a generation, makes a point that joseph and his brothers were very close in age?

  (min 4:29).

  Am I missing something here that they could contradict themselves so easily?

  It's worse than that - they contradict the Bible!

  Genesis 50: 22-26
  

  22 And Joseph continued to dwell in Egypt, he and the household of his father, and Joseph lived for 110 years. 23 Joseph saw the third generation of E′phra·im’s sons, also the sons of Ma′chir, Ma·nas′seh’s son. They were born upon Joseph’s knees. 24 At length Joseph said to his brothers: “I am dying, but God will without fail turn his attention to you, and he will certainly bring you up out of this land to the land about which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 So Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying: “God will without fail turn his attention to you. You must take my bones up out of here.”26 And Joseph died at the age of 110, and they had him embalmed, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
  

  Problems to flag to JWs:

  1 – Joseph lived for 110 years, much longer than people live today so not a great example.

  2 – Joseph lived to see the third generation of Ephraim’s sons (Ephraim was Joseph’s son so that’s 4 generations in total!)
  

  So their use of Joseph collapses by using the Bible.

  i wanted to send an update that today my beautiful grandmother passed away - surrounded by friends and family.

  Grace was a real character, a lovely lady and showed it was possible to wake up at any age.

  i am going to engage on a trip to the past and share with you some of the matters that marked the beginning of the jws persecution in cuba.

  you will be surprised that the pattern that was followed is very similar to what happened in other dictatorial countries.. in the cuban case, i am going to surprise you and tell you that like what happened with hitler; the wt was partially responsible for their clash and confrontation with the cuban government.

  during the early 60s the revolution was fighting for survival and they were willing and ready to demolish any perceived enemy to their cause.. a prime example was their war against the catholic church that was the most influential religious entity in the country; it took the supreme leader only a few public discourses to send the vast majority of clergy packing and back to their country, in this case spain.. the jehovah’s witnesses were an insignificant minority but they over estimated their importance and displayed a belligerent attitude, it was known that this was a us based religion and an easy target to connect them with the cia.

  And thanks for putting the September 8th 1960 Awake article up. From the last paragraph:

  Can’t cope with being disfellowshipped…..Need some advice

  this site is great, i have been lurking for a while now.

  but i can’t get reinstated and have used some of the advice already given.. i was df’d many months ago and go to all the meetings and do all the preparation for the meetings, but the jc committee keep refusing me.

  tomorrow at the clam meeting i am puting yet another letter in and will be called for another dreadful jc meeting.. 1. what can i say to the elders to show that i am truly repentant?.

  In his last years I don't believe Ray was concerned with the distributing of his information but rather that it was available.

  What evidence do you have to back that statement up?

  It's clearly obvious you have not read both of Ray's books, otherwise, you would know how Ray and Nestor K. felt about the spreading of this 'vital' information.

  I have read both and can't think of anything that suggested that he wanted to give his book away for free.

  He could have easily put a free to download PDF on the Commentary Press website.

  Generation expiry date?

  how long will it take for a jw to see that even the overlapping generation is wrong?.

  the org waited and waited to see if their interpretation of it came true.

  those alive in 1914 would still be alive obviously it didn't and jws have to believe in an overlapping generation.

  I think it's great to see.

  It seems to have had quite a reaction:

  UPDATE 2: Thanks for all the questions people, there were so many that unfortunately I couldn't answer them all, but my fellow Ex-JWs managed to answer a few. I will return here tomorrow and try to answer ones that were left unanswered. And even after the AMA ends I urge you to visit r/exjw, you will get even more answers there.

  UPDATE 3: R.I.P. Inbox. 1100 unread messages. It will probably take a while to take it down to 0 :).

  For us it's nothing new, but the more people start to realise what a high control group the JW's are, the better.

  It certainly doesn't hurt to see more Elders (in this case from Poland) waking up.
