Biggins the Bigot?

christopher biggins - the harmless, camp, homosexual, panto star - has been in hot water recently.

in addition to making a tasteless/offensive joke to a jewish contestant in the big brother household, further possibly offensive comments about bisexuality have landed him in hot water.

the offensive jewish joke wasn't broadcast but the comments on bisexuality were.

They're created by a British guy who left his Church a few years ago. He and his brother both now have channels on You Tube exploring their Atheism.

After they left there church they encountered the JW's and there is a great video covering their experience and how he destroyed a classic JW argument:

What is the purpose of life?

while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.

because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".

i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

victims bear responsibility, not blame, if they build in areas where disasters are guaranteed to happen, like very close to railroad tracks, road sides, as the very poor are forced to do in some countries

How can the poor, who as you say are forced into building in these areas, also bear responsibility?

The point is that there may be a good reason that we are not aware of.

When God appears and tells us then let's all discuss the reason.

I am simply saying it is at least possible there are things about reality, our human predicament, and the history of life that we don't fully understand and are not in a position to understand.

Maybe. Maybe not. As that advertising campaign said:

There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.

Enjoy your life SBF. Stop spending time worrying about these things. You can never get this time back.

Good explanation of the reasons why the problem of evil doesn't necessarily disprove a loving God, especially the third video.

Seriously? You watched that video and thought it was a good explanation?

1. His first point is an old as the hills and totally moronic. 'If God exists we would expect that many of his reasons for doing things are stuff we can't figure out.' This pre-supposes that God is a being that will not communicate his reasons for doing things. But if such a being exists why should we bother to be interested in it?

2. We can figure things reasons God might have lots of the evil in the world - and he lists free will and a cause and effect universe. No we can't figure it out! Because why would a vastly intelligent being who can create life, the universe and everything not be able to set up things up so that they don't create such evils. Why did he create us with the ability to see evil and not create a universe that doesn't contain it? That's why the big bang and evolution makes more sense to me. I look at Parasitoids and ask myself, does that look like the work of vastly intelligent creator or the result of evolution? Because if they were created, that God is sick.

SBF - I hope you get answers to your questions. You come across as a slightly tragic figure who has lost his JW faith and now just restlessly searching for meaning in life. I feel sorry for you.

It's been used for power by the Churches for years,

When I said I've been around as long as I have I meant that since I'm only 18 and what I've seen so far in my life. I just don't think others have really looked at things in the country the way I have but that doesn't mean that you guys are inferior, it just means that you guys need to look harder to find the truth that America is filled with just too many atheists and I don't mean to be a fool when I'm saying this but the truth is that everyone really needs to consider amping up their own faith for us as a country to go on making it like we used to because at any moment now this country, and I do mean this entire country, can fail because of this
