Thanks Steve2.
Have been searching JWFacts and Googling but no joy so far.
can anyone remember this?.
in a mid-80s i seem to remember a publication with a box on a page.. inside the box it was saying something like 'some have wondered if 1934 could be the correct starting date, if 587bce was the fall of jerusalem.
but history has shown it was 1914'.. does this ring any bells?.
Thanks Steve2.

If so do you know which publication (name, date and page would be helpful)?
Thanks in advance.
ask any jw this one question.
are there any apostles from the 1st century still walking the earth alive today ?.
100% will say there are no apostles from the 1st century alive today.
When messiah returned for his elect in 70ad
But the Apostle John lived beyond 70ad - why was he left behind?

If I were still a dub , I would reply that Jesus' followers were not appointed as apostles (with Holy Spirit) until the time of Pentecost some after his death and ascension to Heaven .... So at the time he said it, they were not apostles
NB Matthias and Paul were of course appointed later
The JW interpretation of this is that Jesus was referring to the transfiguration, which occurs a few days later.
Which is crazy - what are the chances that a number (possibly the majority) would die in the next 6 days?
And given that none of them did, it's also a false prediction.
The hoops that JW's and other Christians have to jump through to explain this scripture away!
daniel kokotajlo's new film apostasy has it's world premiere at the toronto international film festival in september 2017. apostasy.
family and faith come into conflict for two jehovah’s witness sisters in manchester, when one is condemned for fornication and the other pressured to shun her sibling.. this fresh, unadorned first feature from director dan kokotajlo carries an unmistakable note of authenticity from its very first scenes.
set in a jehovah's witness community in england, the film's strength and power lies in its directness.. apostasy depicts the growing rift in a family — a mother and two daughters — who are rigorously devoted to their religion.
I went to see this yesterday in Hackney.
Really good film, I would describe it as about 98% accurate.
The 3 main leads are superb. The mother is like so many middle aged single mothers I can think of in the organisation.
The actors playing the elders are spot on - particularly the younger super keen CO wannabe.
It's strength lies in the acting, and how the JW's look so odd when presented so normally (if that makes sense). I'd be fascinated to know what active JW's make of the film.
We've waited for many years for someone to make a movie about JW's that feels 'right'. And this does for me.
a man can be a father .
a man can be a son.
a man can be a husband.
But he is all those to 3 different people.
Not the same person.
ok, so hot on the heels of the announcement at the agm, we have been told that there are probably only 12 magazines left!.
yes, there will be only 3 wt each year, and 3 awakes.... and that they will do this for two years, then reprint those issues.... so yes, the "abundance of spiritual food" is limited to 12 more magazines..... surely, this is proof of the end coming so soon!?!
😉.
This is a landmark moment in the history of the Org.
This marks the end of the ministry.
Why?
Think about the pioneers and publishers.
When I was a reg aux pioneer, the back bone of the ministry was always route calls, Going out to people every 2 weeks with the latest magazines.
With the same 12 magazines on loop, then how does that work anymore?
How will the dubs pad out their times now?
This really is the beginning of the great wind down.
jehovah's witnesses have had to revise their chronology and various doctrinal interpretations due to events and scholarly corrections.
but the one teaching where they have been consistently ahead of the curve is the importance of jehovah's name.. .
i'm going to run through a (necessarily selective) timeline of jw events and scholarly publications that demonstrate the phenomenal success of this teaching in the last days.
because the correct pronunciation of the tetragram in hebrew got lost
That was clumsy of God. Why did he allow that given it needs to be sanctified?
How do you sanctify something if you can't even say it?

They alone have a loving WW brotherhood
Not if you try to leave. Don't expect to continue to have a loving WW brotherhood after that.
And if you go around other religious groups and show an interest you will soon find loving WW brotherhood there as well.
they alone never take up a weapon
If you mean wouldn't fight for their country, then that is not true. The Christadelphians, amongst others, do not link.
War is not nice. But sometimes it is necessary. If people hadn't fought back against the Nazis then you would likely be living in a concentration camp right now, if not dead.
they never blessed a weapon
There are plenty of religious leaders who have never blessed a gun. Does that make them true men of God?
they alone never lie
Utter rubbish. From misquoting sources to the ARC, they have been caught out time and time again.
they alone preach the kingdom
No! They preach their interpretation of the Kingdom, which starts on a made up date (1914) which they adopted from someone of another faith!
they alone dont give up in being VIGILANT like the virgins awaiting the bridgeroom.
All Christian groups beleive they (and often they alone) are being vigilant.
You really need to read more critical information if you are ever to learn what reality looks like,

Pheebs is much confused today :(
Please don't be. It is quite simple.
In the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures) God's name is יהוה‎
It occurs many times in the OT. But no one knows how to accurately pronounce it today. Which is odd given that the OT claims יהוה to be God's personal name. You would have thought that God's name would be the one word the entire planet would have access to!
Jehovah is an attempt to pronounce that name, but as many have pointed out it is not correct. This name was created by a Catholic monk around the 13th century. The WT has spent decades teaching something that is not accurate.
In the New Testament there are quotes from the OT where יהוה‎ would have occurred in the original OT text. There is some debate over whether the Jews would have said the name out loud or not.
But the WT has clearly stepped over stepped the mark by adding Jehovah to various verses of the NT where there is no evidence it was ever there. This means they have altered the Bible to fit their beliefs.
In summary:
Hopefully this has helped.
