A new introduction written by a Trinitarian from the Watchman Foundation? I wonder what Ray Franz would have made of that.

I'm not keen on this either.

But, you can read his intro by using the Look Inside link on Amazon.

1) It's very short - 1 maybe 2 pages long.

2) There is nothing about the Trinity in it.

At the end of the day, Franz stayed a believer all his life so having an intro by another believer isn't a deal breaker for me.

i've come across a jw friendly article about watchtower predicting smartphones in the 20s.. .

of course, in the comments section there are a lot of jws freaking out saying "there is no doubt that this is the only true organization!

", "thanks jehovah that used his faithful and discreet slave to tell us some useful information about the future!

The Golden Age article reads more like the description of a mobile phone than a smartphone.

Whereas this article from 1909 (again quoting Tesla) reads more like a smartphone (and smartwatch).

Matthew 24:34 not fulfilled in the first century

i was discussing with an elder the generation teaching and telling him when jesus christ says in matthew 24:34 “truly i say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen.” he was referring to the generation from the first century in 33 ad and these events that were to take place took place with the destruction of jerusalem in 70 ad.

now the elder tells me to go back to a few verses to from verses 29-33 which read: .

“immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened,+ and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.+ 30 then the sign of the son of man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief,+ and they will see the son of man+ coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

I think millions of people have been waiting for almost 2,000 years for this.

Earlier in Matthew 16: 28 he said:

Truly I say to you that there are some of those standing here who will not taste death at all until first they see the Son of man coming in his Kingdom.

And they all died.

Maybe...JC was a false prophet?

Sad but true.

Anyway, as you say it's a moot point, it's how they control people so it will always be there in one form or another.

Without the threat of shunning, what are they (any jw) going to do about it...?

Shun!

Shunning is something anyone can do. You don't have to be a JW to shun someone.

JW's have been told to shun all their lives - do you really think they'd stop just because the organization said the DF'ing was stopping?

If you end shunning its actually not a cult anymore

Shunning is just part of a cult but that is not the whole story. They:

Tell you who you can have sex with

What clothes you can wear

What music you can listen to

What films you can watch

What friends you can have

What education you can get

What health care you can't have if it involves blood or part of blood

It consumes your time with mind numbing meetings designed to keep you busy

You'll be expected to go out door to door to peddle their BS

They lie to their members and do not allow people a space to voice divergent perspectives

You really want to go back to that?

Shunning is directed by the Organization but enacted by the JW populace. For years they've been told this is scriptural. Do you honestly think if the Org stopped it tomorrow that all the individual Witnesses would stop?

The damage by the cult is done, and people will remain with a cult mentality.

I miss my wonderful friends but there is not enough money on this planet to get me to return to that genuine waste of life.

Im on record saying that if they ended df’ing (shunning), i mean really ended it not just changed the name, id go back, at least nominally.

Why on earth would anyone go back?

That's interesting. I've only managed to locate and visit Grace Communion International congregations. I can't find any active WWCG splinter groups locally. I was told by a Grace Communion International member that there were a few adherents of a splinter group called "United Church of God" in Scotland but they didn't last long and have no active congregations in Scotland. Maybe one in Newcastle, I was told.
This is something I have found: just because a group has a presence on the Internet, doesn't necessarily mean they have a functioning church in the real world. I think some of the WWCG splinter groups faded away pretty quickly and exist in name only. (On that, I suspect that the "Lord's Witnesses" may be as real as Gordon Ritchie's chronology. Has anyone ever been to any of their meetings to verify they exist?)
The church headed by Jospeh Tkach (pronounced t-catch) is by far the biggest, although it has shrunk a lot. By the way I heard from an insider that Tkach is retiring next year. I wonder how that will work and if it will survive without him.

Interesting thoughts there.

The GCI Wikipedia page has some interesting points that could in time end up applying to the Org.

In general, Tkach Sr. directed the church theology towards mainstream evangelical Christian belief mostly against the wishes of his congregations and they were given no input as he had maintained the same structure as Mr Armstrong. This caused much disillusionment among the membership and another rise of splinter groups. All these changes, the church admits, have organizationally brought about "catastrophic results," though they believe that it is spiritually the best thing that ever happened to them.

Though many of the current members, however still follow his basic beliefs and would consider the current administration as apostate despite still attending.

Today, the GCI headquarters has downsized for financial survival. The denomination sold much of its property, including sites used for festivals, campsites built for teenagers, its college campuses, and private aircraft.[citation needed] They discontinued publishing all the books, booklets and magazines published by Armstrong.

To further economize, the church sold its properties in Pasadena and purchased an office building in Glendora, California.
