I wonder where the word honkie comes from?

I think it comes from the fact that White people's noses stick out while Black's noses were flatter. I remember someone describing someone that had a "honker" nose!

i had the trach for about 5 months.

April tell your friend to go to a doctor that specializes in thyroidectomies, not just a general surgeon. Also, ask him how many thyroidectomies has he done? And fine out if being put on Synthroid will help to reduce the thyroid. Sometimes, Iodine therapy will reduce a thyroid. Tell her to consider all of the options. An endocrinologist would be a good choice for reduction with meds.

I have been on steroids a few times. I never had any side effects; but, I have not been on them long term, just one or two coarse each time. I have been on topical steroids for itching and rash for over a year. I don't think that topical steroids have the same side effects as oral/injected.

Hi Pec, don't dismiss the power of topical prescription steroids! For the Psoriasis that I have, the doctor had me putting on a topical that had 1000x's the strength of nonprescription; and in addition to that he gave me oral steroids! I thought that I was going to explode! I was too wired; and for a person with Panic Disorder, wired is not good! Way bad! Terrible! A cruel thing to do! Oh hell! I remember being able to take four 50 mg Atarax a day without it knocking me out!

I had Psoriasis all over my body. Putting on steroids made me feel like I had bathed in Cocaine or Crank or something! It was JACKED UP!

When the topical steroid didn't work, they switched me to the Vitamin D analog Taclonex and Dovonex. The dermatologist said the meds need to be cycled so that you don't become immune to them.

ok my gay friends, i'm going to pick on you a minute, but you know i love you all... .

me... liberal male, could care less what you do with your sex organs, i only care about what i do with mine...that said, i've several gay friends... none of which are monogamous.

so, my next door neighbors are lesbians, neither are the hate all males types like some i have known in the past... matter of fact, one loves sports and hangs out here watching football and other sports with me at least once a week.

What am I to do? I'm thinking about telling them to buzz off until they can both be true full and stop being violent. Hell, the butch one might be able to kick my ass! LOL! Should I tell them to leave me alone until they shape up, especially given the fact I don't want ti get involved? Should I call the police when they start their beatings? Damn, this is the first time I've had a neighbor I wished would move? what should I do?

Tell them that it's their mess not yours; and frankly, you're sick of being put in the middle of their grown up affairs! Tell them to handle their business!

i had massive steroid doses for cancer treatment years ago so i know a little about the side effects. depending on dosage and duration yes you will get bigger. also if the steroid is for long term use discuss avascular necrosis with your doctor it is a nasty little side effect of steroid where the blood vessels in your joints die therefore your joints die, not fun and i know i have three metal joints. but good luck with everything you seem to be pretty well informed.

Because of my large family, I very often have lots of stuff going on. I had only told one person on the board about this. But I have a brother in the hospital with paralysis (neck down) and another sister that had to get her other breast removed due to breast cancer. My brother is in the hospital and my sister is going through chemo. We're trying to figure out who's going to take in my brother; but everyone's sick! If isn't one thing, it's another. I didn't tell anyone because I don't want anyone to say anything. Thanks for your response Betterofdead.

Hello Momzcrazy! I've been look up steroid facies, moon face facies, and Cushingoid facies. One thing that I found interesting is:

I took steroids for 3 weeks for a very severe case of poison ivy. I finished the medication 5 days ago, but the "round face" side effect still persists. How long can I expect to look like this?

There is no exact answer. Since you were on steroids for such a short period of time, I would expect that the "moon facies" or "chipmunk cheeks" to resolve rather rapidly over the next few weeks. For people on steriods for longer periods of time, I tell them about 3 to 6 months. Exercise helps.
