it's a struggle to live a life of dualism.
you sought comfort in her arms, were soothed by her normalacy, and is a wiff of fresh air to you.
but if you, like so many others, a 2nd or 3rd gen witnesses, it's a struggle, especially if you believe the dogma and have family in it , and the hold it has on you in your mind it's extreme.

Thanks for posting this. My other half is a duck under the radar type. Oh and he's baptised (i know the fun it can be) Love him to bits. We did the secrecy thing for a bit. Of course I DON"T understand what he's feeling but am still happy to be there. I know I'm a bit late with this post been laid up. Normally I lurke here to learn. Just had to say thanks for this one.

my wife and i have been married 6 years now.
she was a jw when we married as is her entire family.
i was, and still am, very attracted to her because of the way she carries herself and her compassion.. i would like anyone who has had a similar experiance or was a jw to better help me understand what is going on in their heads when it comes to birthdays and such.

Like you am the UBM, the info here is pretty good. Sometimes alittle off the wall, but generally alot of good stuff. I mostly only come to learn and lurke. But have got through a hugely bad patch with my in-laws by reading this stuff, i have needed to ask alot of questions, cause i find that alot of my questions have already been answered by this lot.

hello, i am newly dissociated and was wondering how some of you who grew up in "the truth" have started relationships.
i have never dated for obvious reasons and am now 26 with no experiance and extremely shy about this whole dating process.
i have tried places of interest like gyms, workout classes and even eharmony with no prevail.

Don't hurry, enjoy the pace. A relationship doesn't just happen, my other half has only dated the one person JW style. I was his first worldly date. (he blew me away with kindness and romance). If it's sexual relations you desperatly want, you can buy that. Truely don't be in a hurry to get to that bit.
What kinda things do you like? What are you into?

I agree with Miss Peaches about Australia.
New Zealand is great for holidays, fly fishing is the best. Definatly do the South Island (jessthebull is right), spectacular place to be.
i love my cats as if they were my own children.
i was there when they were born and even cut one of the umbilical cords.
they are part of my family and yes, i do pick them up, hug them and kiss them everyday.

CountryGuy - We had a Lab/Rottie (scamp) cross, he couldn't figure out if he really was tough or just like to eat. When we went down the farm he would come with us. Our huntaways (New Zealand cattle/sheep dog), would move the cattle, Scamp would stand on the other side of the fence barking. He was helping, really he was...
I hug my animals alot. Have a cat, dog, and 2 horses. One of my horses likes to kiss me on the cheek.

i just dont know what to think about the whole blood transfusion issue.. it's a nhs site.. (for us etc, thats government health, not witness related at all) and seems to be backing up totally the wt thing about blood being dangerous.. i want some other opinions, it's one jw belief i dont know what to think about!.

I've been a donor, all through high school and into my late 20's. Australia now has a policy of not excepting blood from anyone who was in the UK and other countries in Europe before the 1994. Which is when the ban on feeding livestock products back to the livestock.
I now give blood to hold for myself as will do this. I have had transfusions when I heamorraghe during a late miscarriage.
Good luck Poppy with your choice in this. My other half will not except a blood transfusion, nor make a decision regarding me. I have a living will to cover this. My life, My decision.

how important is/was spirituality to you when considering a person as a husband/wife?
did you expect the person to have similar spiritual beliefs and goals?
if s/he didn't have similar beliefs, was it important to be able to discuss spirituality respectfully ?
As long as we both can talk about it in a respectfull matter to eachother ... it doesn't bother me. Don't try to convert me, and I shan't try to make you a disbeliever ...
I agree with this.
I think it would be easier to have spiritual compatibility. This could be on different levels, not just religon. We don't have the same religious beliefs (cripes my spelling is getting bad:).
Children, I think are the biggest difficulty. We are childless and likely to remain so.
I was married to a muslim, being with a JW is actually harder cause the rules seem to change within his family as they see fit. Oh well.

this thread is a quick primer for those who are fairly unfamiliar with the jw, but have found that they are dating someone who is or used to be a jw.
well just to give you a little background on how jw's view the rest of the non-jw world: they basically see you as a bug.
you are worldly and certain to bring their loved one death at the hands of god at armageddon.

I've been with my JW other half for sometime. Stick around here and read and read. Great stuff here. Most will tell you to run. You have to do what is in your heart.
Hiding you from the family is a cruelty, I only had to deal with for a few months before I said that I don't need this kind of life. I can happily live by myself. I don't need him, but I do want to be with him and left it up to him to decide what he wants to do with his life. I definatly aren't asking him to change (Of this I have NO right, nor does he have any right to MAKE me change).

in the spirit of jgnat's poll's.... let's name some good things about being in a commited relationship/marriage with a jw who actually follows wts doctrines.
i know there will probably be a lot of sarcastic responses.
i'll start.. because of my husbands faith and actual belief in the way he was raised - i know he won't cheat on me or be out in the bars.
I get to watch what I want on tv tuesday and thursday night.
When he's being faithful. When he's not it's a pain, because you know a man and the remote control issue...
Likes to believe he is in charge of the house. Has very strong family values. (I come from a very loving family with strong family values).
He's alittle naive. (very occasionally comes across as ignorance).
CHRYSTAL thanks for putting a positive, nice light post for a change. We spend so much time thinking that being JW is the root of all evil, when some of us actually love and are friends with the strange creatures that they are.
