Do you still see Doom and Gloom all around you like JW's do?

we all know that the jw's think that the end is so close.. in a way, i'm still programmed that way.

i like reading news from all around the world, and you can find bad news all around the world.

example: bird flu, iran nuclear problem, terrorism, and so on.... i'm just wondering if other x witnesses here still are doom and gloom people, thinking that we are on the edge of some world catastrophy?

It's the glass half full/empty thing--perspective. As a dub it was half empty , now at least half full and filling more every day.

i have found a lot of people no longer believe in god or jesus since leaving the organization.. im very shocked at this.

if you dont believe, can you tell me what brought to that conclusion?.

i was told to look at the thread that one of the members in this forum has created, they are very interesting, but i wanted to get a some feed back from different individuals.. thanks!

A couple of things from the Power of Now that that help me that points to where JamesThomas is going (I think).

-Feel your body from the inside , notice the life , all of your cells tingling and dancing. Feel it in your fingers, toes ect. the more you can do this and not think, just feel, it brings you into the present or sense of being which is Consciousness and reality.

-Notice not the objects of a room but the space. Space or nothingness is what allows the physical to "stand out and exist". When you focus on space (the world of spirit) your attention is drawn to your true and higher self.

-When someone speaks to you listen with your whole being. If you listen only with your mind your mind is constantly running ahead with thought and this is where miscommunication comes in. Sit back, don't think and allow the speaker space to be and express. It's a great compliment because this person knows your connecting deeply and all your relationships are enhanced.

From Adyashanti : Find the observer of you. For example if I say "I am Onesong" who is the "I". Step back and watch your mind and physical body. The watcher is your true self.

Adyashanti's book "Emptiness Dancing" emphasizes that we are not what we think we are...merely these physical bodies with chaotic minds but that we are a higher being and need to learn that our bodies and minds are tools. When we master them WE are in control, not slaves to them.

The more I've learned , practiced and experienced the ideas I've grown in leaps and bounds in being peaceful, understanding and altogether happy!

AlmostAtheist, I'm reading "THE POWER OF NOW" as well and it is one of the most powerful books I've read in a long time.

I'm with much of what you said LittleToe. I think anything written is merely an attempt to explain the explainable. God can truly only be experienced...we all have a different concept of god in some way. When we can entertain others' ideas of god and not see them as right or wrong we can marvel at the unlimited variety of ways god can be revealed--or even not.

I try not to get stuck in beliefs but rather entertain ideas...any and all ideas. That maybe we are all gods in the making and the challenges and trials we face are tools for our growth.

Maybe we are all parts of god put into a physical realm to experience a life not possible in the world of spirit.

Maybe humankind is one consciousness that is slowly evolving and we each have a special purpose or role and we find it when we follow our hearts.

I had a conversation with a woman the other day who had a near death experience when she was 9 years old. She was in a car accident, had a severe head injury and remembers leaving her body. "Like a genie out of a bottle" was how she described it. She was looking down at her body and it felt totally foreign to her, she suddenly felt much older than 9 years. She went on and on about it (I'll spare all the details) but it had such an effect on her. She is totally fearless and lives large. You can feel her confidence and conviction that there is something grand waiting for us on the other side.

Whatever the answers are I don't think we're supposed to fully know--it could cause us to miss out on the beautiful life right in front of us.

I try to apply Jesus statement of "surrendering our souls to save it" In other words don't worry about your salvation, have complete trust in the intelligence that Created you and live fully.

What Does the Bible Really Teach??

my wife's family is jw, she has never been a partipative jw, but now due to her mom, has been expressing some interest and is starting a 'bible study' using 'what does the bible really teach?

' am looking for any guidance on this book as well as any path i can take to make sure my wife stays away.

any assistance at all would be appreciated.
