Stock Up! The End Is Near!
by LevelThePlayingField inabout four paragraphs down in the article... source: http://www.westernjournalism.com/stock-up-the-end-is-near-or-so-say-mormons/.
cults quite commonly use made-up prophecy to bolster their membership.
for example, beginning around 1918, the watchtower bible and tract society today commonly known as jehovahs witnesses began teaching that the old testament saintsabraham, isaac, jacob and king david, etc.would all be returning from the dead in 1925!

Governing body member engaged... Again!
by OneDayillBeFree injust found out that the australian governong body member known as geoffrey jackson got engaged to a sister about two weeks ago.
it really shocked me at first but then i remembered how other members of the gb have remarried in the past like daniel sidlik.
what made me say "woah" was hearing that the holy bride to be is really young!

THE WATCHTOWER (STUDY EDITION) JANUARY 2016
by wifibandit inpdf .
this issue contains the study articles for february 29 to april 3, 2016.. what about the number of those partaking at the memorial?12, 13. why should we not worry about the number of those who eat the bread and drink the wine at the memorial?12 in recent years, we have seen an increase in the number of those partaking at the memorial of christs death.
that trend contrasts with the decrease in the number of partakers that we saw for many decades.

Once again they have laid the blame right at the door of the rank and file!
---edit--- Is it any wonder the rank and file have mental or emotional problems with the constant changes and confusing teachings!

The end of the age or the end times what did the Bible writers mean?
by Crazyguy inthere are plenty of scriptures pointing to the idea that the end was near according to the scriptures way back then.
example at act chapter 2 peter states were in the last days, at 1john chapter 2 in the last hour.
jesus stated he would be back before some of that generation died and of course the famous quote 'this generation'.

The events have only occurred more frequently due to the advent of round the clock information at our fingertips. Remember the days (at least in the UK) we had 3 channels (showing my age!) Then Rupert Murdoch came along and gave us sky news, now we have a glut of 24h news channels.
Then the world wide web was introduced to us, giving us more choice. Now we have phones that are not attached to little red boxes. These handy devices fit in your pocket but can carry you anywhere around the world in a millisecond. Not being satisfied with smartphone technology, the techies wanted to invent the same technology as the smart phone but on a larger scale. The tablet was born, now this wasn't made of stone like Moses tablets, these were made of silicon, and more functional than Moses stone tablets. These devices let you see the ten commandments and much much more, including the opportunity to break at least one of the ten commandments is you so wished!
So now we are living in an era that mankind has never seen before, the era that led most if us to this forum. Welcome to the age of information :)

Oh the humanities...my wicked neighbor!
by username ini have been given a piece of birthday cake as it was his birthday yesterday!
will i be a human hot dog now?.....
this just got me thinking of all the stupidities of the watchtower teachings, someone very kindly offers you something as innocent as a slice of chocolate cake but we were supposed to turn it down because that peace of chocolate cake now had horns poking out the top of the chocolate frosting.

I am beside myself. What should I do? I have been given a piece of birthday cake as it was his birthday yesterday! Will I be a human hot dog now?....
....Said my old self!
This just got me thinking of all the stupidities of the watchtower teachings, someone very kindly offers you something as innocent as a slice of chocolate cake but we were supposed to turn it down because that peace of chocolate cake now had horns poking out the top of the chocolate frosting. Not to mention said neighbor now avoiding you like you have just contracted leprosy...Oh, but it gave a good witness and maybe the neighbor would now be so impressed that he would want to learn all things watchtower, and before you know it, not only is your neighbor "one of" Jehovah's witnesses but his whole family were so impressed by your refusal of this good deed they decided to study to!

What’s the deal with all the Smart-Educated JWs?
by John Aquila inwe talk a lot about most jws being uneducated, uninformed, and that they lack critical thinking skills, but in my area there is a lot of jws that went to the university, medical school, law school, and came back to the organization.
in my circuit, that i know of, we had two electrical engineers, one computer engineer with a ph.d. eight teachers with a bachelors degree and three of those with a masters in education.
we had two medical doctors, one was a pediatrician who closed his business about 3 years ago and went to bethel.

The right to shun - wrong?
by Simon inmany people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.
it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.
of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.

Logistically (especially the US) removing the tax exempt status would be pretty much impossible, nor would the oligarchs want to. We are talking about a multi billion dollar corporation that invests in such companies as Lockheed Martin and Grumman Northrop, two of the biggest companies to supply weapons to the US, UK, Israel, Syria (anti Assad rebels via the CIA) and many more.
Personally I think this is why the watchtower are dealt with in a pretty lenient way in the US. It invests in such things as the military industrial complex which gives them a certain amount of immunity.
