In families with an oriental lady, the oriental lady runs the finances.
The man has an allowance with which he can do as he pleases, but all major finance is run by the lady.
i just saw this done on a tv show and was intrigued by the answers (almost unanimously yes).
"yes, but my husband is about to retire so i'm going to have to start telling him the truth!".
"ohhh, yes - if my husband knew the truth he'd need medication!".

as an elder, i saw many people that were affected by booze, drugs and mental health issues.
a lot of witnesses fought depression and turned to other things when they realized they couldn't keep up the pace and find inner happiness with what they did do..
I never observed drugs (back in the 1960-1970 era) but most of them that I knew drank like fishes.

All interesting information...having said that:
I do trust that nobody has attempted to click on the red words in the original post?
This poster has put suspect links here on JWN before - just saying.
my 86 year old mother stopped believing she was going into paradise earth without dying first, about 10 years ago.
my aunt used to think she was going to make it through the great tribulation.
even a week before she died, she clung on to this fairy tale.. do you think jws believe they will never die at all and will, in their lifetime, be on a paradise earth to live forever?.
Yup.
This was, incidentally, an important thread which we should all remember:
The point being - not very many of the JWs themselves still REALLY believe in their big promise of the new earth in their lifetimes.

What I mean is that the vast majority of the young generation that I know could really care less about the actual doctrines.
They are just going along with the flow.

So they stay in because they don't teach hellfire, immortality of the soul, etc??
I think they stay in for pretty much the same reason the North Koreans stay in North Korea: First, they are trapped there - mentally. Second, they have been going through the JW motions so long they just don't know anything else to do.

We have had other threads on this subject - and generally the concensus has been that a very small percentage - probably not more than 25% actually believe that the new system will come during their lifetimes.
Many, of course, will SAY they believe it - but I think that very very few actually still do.
Here is a typical comment - from the thread on 1975 - and I think it is very true:
Frankly, for most JWs (except perhaps the newest recruits) I think 1975 and the time hence has indeed been "enough". Locally (almost) NO ONE is living as though we are in "the Last Days". Apathy is abundant. Most are going through the motions, not knowing what else to do.
acoording to this letter to the society posted on anoitedjw (i realize some here do not hold it in high regard) the wts has not had any articles about the memorial or any mention of jesus in articles leading up to the memorial (public version).
instead 2-3 articles on moses and one on judas.
also rumor has it that the wts will no longer be posting the amount of partakers, (perhaps for fear of how many are going to begin partaking?!?).
Please not the my comments were specifically about the rumor or notion that starting in 2013, the JWs would no longer report the number of persons partaking of the emblems.

I said there was nothing to see here because this is pure speculation.
