  I am tired of arguing this ridiculous point.

  School - public school - is the place for teaching real things - real math, real language, real science, real history.

  It is NOT the place for teaching religion.

  If you want your children to be taught religion to the exclusion of science or history - then put them in a specific religious school or try to home-school them yourself. This is, of course, to the eventual educational harm of the child - but that remains your right in U.S. society.

  That is all that I have to say on this subject.

  Tuna would not kill the kid, Ravens. I could feed him catfish at home. I WOULD object if they tried to teach him to always eat tuna on fridays for religious reasons.

  That is actually much more relevant to this topic of discussion than you might think at first - it goes directly to the point.

  Surely you are not going to tell us that you want the public schools to teach that the earth was created in seven literal days - or that mankind has only existed for about 6,000 years?

  That is interesting, Satanus. I had suspected that the rapists might be Islamics, but had not seen that confirmed.

  The Hindu religion - if I understand it correctly - does not have anything like the Islamic disdain for women's rights.

  Of course, we have had some perfectly idiotic ideas about it posted here on JWN - including the notion that this crime was caused by POVERTY.

  james woods heres my postion if ppl dont want there kids to here bout god,than dont teach them evolution,none of it should be in schools than,its not fair to teach one side than make the other side unlawful.

  That is not very different from the medieval attitude of the Catholic Church that nobody should teach the obvious fact that the sun is the center of the solar system.

  Evolution is quite simply a scientific fact - and has nothing to do with the teaching or non-teaching of religion.

  No more than whether or not the Earth is the center of the Universe has anything to do with religion.

  Can you imagine how badly educated a high school graduate in today's society would be if they had never been taught about evolution and natural selection?
