  albuquerque, n.m. - authorities in new mexico have arrested a 15 year old boy who shot and killed his parents and siblings.

  i heard on the news this morning that the little bastard admitted that he had also planned on going to an open place (like a mall or school perhaps?

  The Bible plainly shows that we all are sinners deserving of death; it is only by God’s undeserved kindness that we live. (Rom. 3:23; 6:23; Lam. 3:22, 23) So those who died had no special “right” to life. Additionally, can any human today say for sure that those 70,000 were not guilty of some serious sin not mentioned in the historical record?

  Exactly right, Blondie - those 70,000 NEEDED killing for other reasons, aside from the census. Had no right to life, either.

  That Bathsheeba baby was also probably the spawn of Satan and would have grown up to be a serial killer.

  Now everybody stop thinking, do what the Watchtower says, and shut up.

  i feel cheated that never, not once, as a dub or as a ex-dub, did i experience the presence, manifestation, or just-things-flying-around, of demons.

  not so much as a teacup levitating from its saucer.

  no inexplicable cold spots.

  I honestly, sincerely, hope that people who still believe in (and are fearful of) the JW-style DEMONS are in the very very small fringe minority of the ex-JW community.

  I view this fetish with "demon invasion, infestation, possesion, and attack" as the JW version of snake-handling or speaking in tongues.

  It is simply just that childish, superstitious, and ignorant.

  I cannot share with you exactly HOW one can contract a demon - that would be absolutely unloving, given the risk for such to occur should one follow the information. I would be like me showing a 3-three-year-old how to load and shoot a gun, and then leave him/her alone with the loaded gun. But please don't fool yourself into thinking it CAN'T be done - it absolutely can. Which might be why some here are lovingly cautioning you.

  Aguest COULD tell us, but then it would be the kind thing to just KILL US for our own protection...

  They may realize it is futile for gaining members (it has been futile for decades - futile for all their history) - but that does not mean they will quit making their people do it.

  It is futile for making converts - but not futile as a Watchtower behavior control mechanism.

  Same thing could be said for the Mormon Missionaries - viewed by the Mormon church as a rite of passage for Mormon teen boys rather than a valid recruitment tool.

  it may seem like a stupid question but who was responsible for translating their version of the bible?

  i heard it was ray franz, several governing body members.

  does anybody have any legitimate info that can prove who exactly translated it?

  It is generally thought to not amount to what could honestly be called a "translation" - but rather a tranliteration using other English texts.

  Note that while they had no authentic ancient Greek scholar or translator, they did have a non-Witness translinear Greek/English manuscript which was left to the Society by that author's widow, and which they first published intact - and later published with Watchtower markups. (Diaglott)

  Glenn Beck vs Lawrence O'Donnell vs the Bible

  on glenn beck's website theblaze the following article appears.. i'm snipping and pasting for your comments.. i think this is one of the most important issues facing society: bible worship.. were it not for the smokescreen of bible infallibility, for example, the watchtower society would not have the platform they need to dominate the minds of 7 million followers.. .

  i think both beck and o'donnell are ill-equipped to be proponents for/against--but, at least both are high-profile.. scan through this article and pick out the salient points.. then give your thoughts on this tension of orthodoxies.... .

  last week, msnbcs lawrence odonnell unleashed upon the christian bible, making bold proclamations against its contents and dismissing it as a book that is outdated and inhumane.
