Very true, Wasblind.
But NOBODY will prosper unless the deficit and debt are controlled. If they are not, in time we will be like Greece.
I did not hear ANY serious intent on the part of Obama in the speech yesterday to do anything about either.
after leaving the jehovah's witnesses, i started getting in to politics.
i naturally found myself going republican and voted a long those lines.
however, with my more pagan nature and being pretty much against christianity.

what
was not best for me was some of the things the republicans
wanted to do
I was taught in civics class that people really should vote on what is best for the country, not on "what is best for me".
Maybe that is not holding true any more.
i've been a texan for a couple of month now.
i haven't run into any texan ex-jws yet.
anyone close to denton or wichita falls?
Yes, Vietnamese - born there and escaped in 1975 from the embassy.
I will see what we are doing Saturday and let you know in a day or two...
did any of you 'come out' about the ttatt from a platform, whether at the meeting, assembly, or convention?
what did you say / do, and what happened?.
A very rebellious congregation!
Don't they know that no one can understand the Bible without WT literature to explain it to them?
Ha! That was in 1978 - right at the height of the Ray Franz (post 1975) contraversy.
A lot of people in that congregation knew about it through the Dunlaps and actually thought that reform from the Watchtower Society might be under way.

I am in Carrolton, North Dallas...I will see if my wife Mai would like to go to Korean (or maybe Vietnamese) on Saturday.
Will PM you in a day or two.
albuquerque, n.m. - authorities in new mexico have arrested a 15 year old boy who shot and killed his parents and siblings.
i heard on the news this morning that the little bastard admitted that he had also planned on going to an open place (like a mall or school perhaps?
) and opening up fire on everyone there too.
Apparently in his parents' closet.
Exactly my point. They should have been locked up, like the ones used in the Newtown shootings.
I know that the anti-gun/gun abolitionists will say "it would not have happened if there were no guns".
I find that irrelevant - there are 350 million guns in the U.S. today, and no law is going to confiscate them all. No new law to prevent gun sales would have stopped this shooting. The guns in this incident were almost certainly legally obtained and legally owned - but carelessly stored.
All that emotion and effort would be more effectively used in an effort to contain home guns in a safe manner - which is really the only available course of action to prevent such shootings.

I gave the memorial talk the last year I was an elder. (I was already "out" and would be resiging in about 2 or 3 weeks)
I refused to follow the outline - and said nothing about the 144,000, the two classes, or the significance of partaking (going to heaven).
I just read the pertinent New Testament scriptures, called for passing the bread and the wine, and had the closing song.
Several people told me they thought it was an excellent way to handle the memorial - very dignified, using only the bible.

Really? I'm not as well read as I should be, but I don't recall reading anywhere that his religion had any effect on the outcome. Do you have any sources which indicate religion played any sort of role?
I do not have any polling results, or other statistics. It is just my own feeling - and I know several people who were sick of Obama but voted for him anyway because of this issue. Note that polling may not give accurate answers to it anyway - this is something people could easily lie about.
In my opinion, the same people who would be disinclined to vote for someone because "he's a Mormon" are pretty much the same people who believe "Obama is a Muslim". I would have to think, for such folk, "Mormon" is the lesser of 2 evils.
It is NOT at all the equivalent thing. It takes a 9/11 truther, or a birther, to really believer Obama is actually a secret Muslim. As has been mentioned, he had 4 years in the office and had not really done anything domestically that was pro-muslim. Romney was an unknown quantity.
My point was that it is time for the Republican Party to begin distancing themselves from the fundamentalist viewpoint...in today's demographics this position is losing many moderate votes that would otherwise go to the GOP.

I was thinking of the parents keeping their guns locked up, Sir82...note that this simple act would have prevented Sandy Hook as well.

The two parties ebb and flow in 8 to 12 year cycles. They will be back in due time.
What I think would be beneficial is the emergence of a socially libertarian, non-religious, and financially conservative third party.
I think many people have voted for Obama not because they like his leftist policy (and debts) but because they are tired of the fundamental religious connections of the Republicans. I strongly suspect that Romney could have won the last election if he had not been a Mormon.
I also think that the Republicans have for the most part left behind true financial conservative values - many Republicans are just as big-government, big-spending advocates as the Democrats. They just advocate different programs.
