True, daringheart - in the old days they would have had some articles explaining how the Iraq war was prophecied in Daniel or some such.

I miss the in depth topics about WTS false teachings....
by wallsofjericho inare we bored with the wts now?
have we heard it all already?.

Anybody else kinda intrigued about Oprah interviewing Lance Armstrong?
by Theocratic Sedition ini'm a bit excited about this to be honest with you.
i'm not even remotely a cycling fan, but all this controversy made it a bit difficult to simply ignore.
i'm curious to see how he does when those questions come at him full force.

Think about all the cyclists he competed against who did not cheat and put their heart and soul into the competition.
How much do you want to bet that he will claim that "he didn't REALLY cheat because everybody ELSE was cheating too"?

Urban legend? Or did this really happen when they renovated The Towers?
by cobaltcupcake inmy ex-husband was in bethel when the society bought and started renovating the towers hotel in brooklyn.
my family stayed there when the society was renting a few floors - the place was beyond flea-bag - and people actually lived there.
once the society took possession of the building they started renovating, and of course the residents had to be evicted.

No, but I think I stayed in the Towers back in the early 70s before the Society bought it (on a Bethel tour) and I can guarantee you that you needed at least a pint of whisky to go to sleep in that fleabag.

Freddy Franz may have been educated (exactly how high a quality of education is up for debate) - but it should never be forgotten that he was also completely shit crazy.
It is possible that with the new emphasis on rule by committee (instead of virtual dictatorship) they just cannot get anything so bizarre (and therefore interesting - in a sort of theological train-wreck sense) past the dumbing-down process these days.

Well, maybe it can give a little boost to Oprah's sagging OWN network before she sells it to the Al Queda.
Frankly, there is nothing that Lance Armgstron can further say or do to make me like him or respect him.
I think he is one of the sports world's all time jerks. And it is NOT just the drugs that make me say that.

Does an "all knowing" God have the leisure of choosing not to know something?
by wannabefree inthis concept just always caused a conflict in my mind.
i can remove the idea of predestination with knowing something in advance, why would the watch tower insist that god chooses not to know something?
is that even possible for god?

Blondie makes an excellent point: This is pure speculation on the part of the JWs (and other enthusiasts for this idea) - no such notion is anywhere in the scriptures.
Also the point that it is meaningless should be obvious: How would god keep such knowledge secret from HIMSELF? He has some sort of library of things to happen in the future - but just chooses not to look in certain pages of certain books in that library?
So - if that is the case - who made the library of things that will happen in the future?
No - none of this makes any sense at all.

Guns, Politics, and Liberty
by Infowarrior ini was raised as a witness in canada all my life.
the majority of my time attending watchtower meetings i was essentially never exposed to how spiritual beliefs relate to political belifes, even in terms with jw watchtower doctrine.
i grew up understanding that some witnesses had diffrent ideas on things, but was made to feel that the watchtower established many key beliefs that are required for witnesses in good standing.

One simple question: Is the original poster trying to say that the banking community (which he thinks control the government) is anti-gun?

This is one of the main reasons why Einstein rejected the notion of an anthropomorphic "intellectual" god.
He viewed this notion (God COULD have known Adam would sin, but CHOSE not to peek) as a crutch manufactured by human theology in order to make God look "fair" when he made man (who eventually sinned) and then sentenced the man to death.
It is all tied up in the "free will" debate - and in a strictly analytical sense, if God even COULD have known what Adam would do - then Adam did not truly have "free will" or a "free choice" in the matter.
This is, of course, a popular JW teaching because they highly dislike the notion of predestination. But the teaching itself is rife with self-contradictions.

Do JWs Really Still care about the "Truth"?
by XBEHERE ini often read posts on here citing some km school or wt article and the comment that "now they are tightening their grip" or "they will now go after faders" etc, etc.
my perception is that the vast majority of jws, including the elders, are suffering from apathy and fatigue.
most simply don't care anymore.

What tornapart says I think is right.
I would not hesitate to wager that fewer than 25% of the current crop of JWs REALLY think the big A will come in their lifetimes.
For most of them it is just a bad social habit.
