What "scams" do you know about?
by new boy inafter "cumpets" thread about "the hot russian girl friend" it seems like a good thread topic.. i had one a few years ago..........you get this letter in the mail "you have just won a free boat and motor" something smells fishy.........so i call the company in texas.......yep!
they said "just send us $80 bucks for shipping and handling"........at the time i was a lumber broker........and i knew some times the freight cost is were you could make the real profit in the deal.
so i called them back and said "i will be in texas next week so i will just pick them up there"...........they said "sorry sir they are shipped out of maine" i said "it just so happens that i will be in maine that week too"..........they hung up on me... the shipping and handling is were the money is make........they were going to ship me a rubber raft (cost 10 bucks) and a motor (a junky pastic thing that cost 10 bucks) real frieght cost 10 dallors....net cash to them $50.00...........per sucker.. thats why all these commericals on tv talk about free "life time" replacement of razor blades or whatever, ...................just pay the "shipping and handling"............suckers!.

Let's Give AudeSapere a Great Big Hug
by FreeChick inas many of you know, audesapere (denise) had reconstructive knee surgery last wednesday.
the surgery ended up being quite a bit more involved then she originally anticipated.
she has approximately 5 more weeks walking with crutches and then i believe she will continue with physical therapy.. denise made it through the first several days post-op like a trooper!

Do you know what your last name means and where it comes from...?
by Justahuman24 ini have always been interested in what last names mean and where they come from and if someone famous in the past is related to us because of the same last name.
my last name comes from greek but my family is not greek.
it dates back to the year 700ce and it was around the time in europe when people were starting to get last names - i'm talking about the general people not monarchs.

Thanks FE203Girl!
This confirmed what I vaguely remembered of my dad's side of the family
WILLIAMS Celtic; Welsh; Name of Parent Ending in -S Grandpa was 1st or second generation Welsh immigrant and sheep herder in Idaho (no sheep shagger jokes please)
ETHERINGTON English - Locational Name; Settlement Ending; Ton Grandma 1st or second generation English Immigrant.
Mom's side
WALKER English - Occupational Name; Ending in -Er; Manufacturing Occupation Also from what my little sis tells me, Walker was a title/surname given to drifters and nomads in UK.
the other half is a bit oharder to figure out

I applied to a university yesterday.
by kwintestal inafter a few years of humming and hawing, i decided i would.
it was more of what i would take that held me back then if i should go.. i'm only 28, so i'm not too far behind.

I started back at a Community College at about your age Kwin. With my schedule I wasn't able to go to school full time and did one class per term (night classes after work). I found the college experience to be very fulfilling and much different than highschool. I had to drop it due to worl scheduling (50 hours a week). But am thinking of taking some personal enrichment stuff like art etc.
