Do JWs take Genesis literally?
by undercover inas i grew up as a jw it seemed that we accepted genesis was a literal account with the only question being how long a creative day was.
for the longest time, as best as i can recall, a creative day was considered a thousand years long, based on the ole "a thousand years is as a day to jehovah" rule.. somewhere though, it seems that there was some waffling on how long a creative day was.
especially since science was showing that the earth was millions of years old.. since i've faded i wonder, do jws today consider genesis as a literal account of how things were created, even if they can't explain the exact length of a creative day?.

The Genesis account is just too silly to be taken literally. Sadly some people won't give it up. By the way, our last public talk was about the flood. The speaker went to great lengths to prove how a water canopy existed outside the atmosphere (Thus allowing for a warmer climate), how the poles were created by the frozen water after the flood, how all continents were united before the flood, that the flood caused the continents to move to their modern position (While creating all mountains in the process), and that the poles froze because "without the protective water layer, all the cold from space was sucked down like in a vacuum" (His words). Please. He also mentioned how only 40 "species" of mammals had to be on the ark to produce all the ones today. I guess they do believe in evolution after all.

Pride in Statistics. How well are the JW's doing, really?
by jgnat inthis week's study article is: people "out of all the languages" hear the good news (december 1, 2005 wt) .
and they state "eagerly embracing that commission, jehovah's witnesses are active in 235 lands, distributing literature in more than 400 languages.
a recurring theme with jehovah's witnesses is pride in statistics; the volume of literature they place, the number of lands where their version of the good news is preached, their growth, and the number of translations available.

I must admit, I had no idea other ministries where this active. The WTS's statistics really pale cmpared to 611 bible translations!

Did you criticise/expose the WTS after leaving?
by greendawn inafter leaving the jws as df/ed or disass/ed were you willing to expose them for what they are to others, or were you unwilling to do so because you still felt respect for them for being the "truth"?
-
Muffinman
Agreed, people need to hear the truth about them.

How long are your....
by hamsterbait ini have noticed that the longer i am on this board, my posts (hmmm... what were you expecting?
) are getting shorter.
i want to cut to the chase quicker.. remember the days when you agonized and ecstasied over every full stop and comma, and tried to argue and defend every imagined counter point?.

Churchill is drunk at a conference:
Woman: Mr. Churchill, you're drunk!
Churchill: And you're ugly. But tomorrow I'll be sober.
