alright, i'm looking for some opinions from the male portion of our jwd audience.. i'm in a long-distance relationship, like i've said here a million times before, so doing special things for my guy is kinda hard.
not only is it long-distance, it's international, too.
we're 3500 miles apart and i'm a starving student, so i can't just swing by for a visit to do something special for him on the fly.. last semester, i sent him a bunch of flowers in his favourite colour, a special "i miss you" bouquet from a local florist that i found online.
Definately appreciated as a one off gesture though - a good way to say you like him a lot. And of course his mates will rib him about it, they are just jealous and blokes love making fun of someone.
I sent him a great bunch of flowers back in October, not too girly, no frills or ribbons or anything, lots of shades of blue and purple, just to show him how much I love and appreciate him, and I think he appreciated the gesture, if not the flowers themselves. And his pals at work definitely teased him about it.
Maybe this time, it's time to be a little more practical and guy-oriented with a gift.

I think just looking in your eyes would do it for me.
Aww, Ken, why aren't all men that sweet?? Then again, my guy would probably say something like that, too, just because he's a hopeless romantic most of the time. I think I have the world's last cuddler - my sweetie loves to just cuddle with me, it's nice.
Given the choice between a decent single malt whiskey and a bunch of flowers; the scotch wins hands down everytime.
Hmm, the thing is, I don't know if he even likes scotch. I think I saw a liquor bottle in his cupboard the last time I was at his place, but I didn't take notice of what it was exactly. I think it had gold flecks floating around in it - does that ring a bell?? Maybe I dreamed that...

I can kill cacti, but that carnivorous plant thing would actually make my eyes sparkle.
LT, are you suggesting that maybe, just maybe, some form of "flower" might be a suitable gift for guys??
Maybe I will get that for my boyfriend, he might like it. If he doesn't kill it...

I love this so much! Maybe too much maintenance for him though?
I thought the carnivorous plant thing was pretty fun, too, and I'm sure he'd love it, but he's really not that good with plants. He has an African violet that hates him more often than not, he has a nasty habit of leaving it outside when it's too cold outside and it nearly dies, then it's OK for a while, then he leaves it outside too long again... It's a vicious cycle.
He doesn't have much of a green thumb. He can do damn near anything with a computer, but living things, he's not much good with.

You are a former JW woman. You are programmed to please.
Actually, I've never been a JW, and I'm eternally grateful for that. I do have a nagging desire to please, though, it runs in my family, we all like to keep everyone else happy. Or maybe it's a Newfie thing...
I'm sure he'll "appreciate" I put the effort into getting for him, just like I appreciate everything that he gives me, but I want him to like it, too. I don't want him to feel like he has to pretend to like it for my sake. I know he'll thank me for anything that I send, but I know that if I send him something that he doesn't like, then he's going to feel obligated to say that he really likes it, and I don't want to put in him an awkward position. Everyone knows what it's like to get a present that you don't really like - like those ugly slippers that your grandmother was so proud of getting for you, or that hideous pink shirt that your father gave you because "girls like pink things" - and I don't want to give him one of those gifts.
Heh, and he most certainly won't be getting anything for me for Valentine's Day, he'd rather be taken out in the road and shot. He doesn't even know when Valentine's Day is, he's been programmed to hate and ignore any and all occasions that might be special to someone, myself included. I've learned not to expect gifts for anything from him - not for Christmas, not for my birthday, not for Valentine's Day, nothing. I send him something for Valentine's Day, but I don't expect to get anything from him, I know better, he's a well-programmed little JW.

this might be very boring for most people but some who were denied the opportunity to get a post-secondary education might find it an interesting perspective on what defines "scholarly" and "academic" work.. the question concerning the scholarship of the wts has come up a few times.
i took one university religion course and had to write a couple of papers.
the title of the course was "on death and dying".
Copyright laws are pretty clear. Misquoting (twisting the intent of the original author) and plagarism are legal issues. Aren't they?
I would think that plagarism is very illegal. As a university student, I'd had to sit through many lectures about the seriousness of plagarism - it's considered "academic theft", it's stealing someone else's ideas and words and claiming them to be your own. Plagarism in university can get you expelled, no ifs, ands or buts.
I don't know anything about copyright law, but couldn't plagarism and misquoting and all of that be considered illegal and warrant legal action??

Funniest thing I heard of in a LDR was the woman sending her guy a bouquet of porn. He loved it.
Hehehe, not a bad idea, I'm sure my guy would love it, too. He tends to keep his porn hidden on his computer so that nobody will find it, I'm sure he'd enjoy some porn that he could touch instead of having to sift through his hard drive for it. He'd probably brag to his pals about it, too - "Hey, guess what my girlfriend gave me??"
Then again, I'd be way too embarrassed to do that for him.

Super-Becka I thought a bottle of scotch was one drink.
Depends on the size of the glass. And if you even bother using a glass.
