Are the gospels genuine?
by ackack ini've been reading the jesus puzzle and something interesting was this re-ordering of q. its seems like the various pieces of q in luke and matthew have different contexts.
this would support that the contexts for the q sayings were invented.. it seems that paul doesn't reference the gospels in any form.. does this support a late writing for the gospels and therefore calls into question how close the gospels were written to the alleged events of jesus' life?.
how would someone who believes in the gospels reconcile these differences?

Please note what 2 Peter 3:16 says:
14 Hence, beloved ones, since YOU are awaiting these things, do YOUR utmost to be found finally by him spotless and unblemished and in peace. 15 Furthermore, consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul according to the wisdom given him also wrote YOU , 16 speaking about these things as he does also in all [his] letters. In them, however, are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unsteady are twisting, as [they do] also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
The letters of Paul were considered to be Scriptures, like the Hebrew scriptures, and most likely the gospel accounts.

impact of meetings/assemblies on my non-JW life
by limbogirl ini grew up jw and like many of you spent countless hours in boring meetings and long assemblies that seemed to go on forever.
as a little kid i developed a talent for sitting at the meeting or assembly and looking as though i were paying attention but honestly i wasn't even in the room.
i perfected this over a number of years and now find that as a non-jw adult it's really a problem.

Hi limbogirl,
I've had a different outcome of the same experiences. I HAD to listen during meetings and assemblies, because I'd get quizzed afterwards, and then get beat if I didn't answer the questions correctly. As a result, I have the valuable skill of listening, analyzing and synthesizing material presented during very boring business meetings.

Early Christianity - a cult?
by serendipity in.
i was wondering if anyone has applied the criteria that identifies a cult to first century christianity, as described in the bible, and historical records from the first three centuries.
have any of you run across a discussion like that while reading books on cults, hopefully by an author that is either supportive of, or tolerant of christianity?.

Hot sisters (or brothers) in your cong...
by blakky ini was just wandering.... was it just me or was everyone thinking about it..... ive been in a few congs where some of the sisters were absolutely drop dead gorgeous!
my last cong here in sydney, there was about 160 publishers so the talent was every where... i remember having the hots for this sister, who happens to be the wife of the service overseer... she was xxx hot.
i remember always having to wear my suit coat to the meeting to hide my excitement.. i think all the bro's must have thought the same thing.

I think most of the good looking brothers are in the Spanish congregations, but many are short and I like my men close to 6'.
In my current congregation, there is one very good-looking brother, tall too. All the single sisters are after him, as you may imagine. I think he's in his late 30's and not married for the 8 years I've known him. Kind of odd, because he definitely could have his pick.
There's another good-looking brother from a different congregation who I met last year, recently-divorced after his wife cheated on him, repeatedly.
I guess good looks don't guarantee lasting love....

JWs are also in the dark regarding the true meaning of Sheol/Hades.
by Schizm inthe watchtower society explains "hades" as being "the common grave of mankind".
christendom's understanding of "hades" is, for the most part, quite different than that of the watchtower society.
the one similarity between the two beliefs is that in both cases "hades" is considered to be a literal place.. the truth of the matter is that neither the watchtower society or christendom has a correct understanding of the terms "hades".
