When I have bad days, I ask: will it matter in 2 days, 2 weeks - if the answer is no - then I try not to worry about it. In my job, I just decided to check my ego at the door - everyone makes mistakes. Less stress that way.

I must say that I am very curious
by Grins ini am looking for information on the beliefs of jehovah's witness i do not know much and i am afraid that most of what i am finding is biased information one way or the other.
i did find a "fact sheet" and i am wondering if all of it is true or not.
i looked at the watchtower website for answers to a few of these and so far i am finding them to be true.

JWs can do any of these things. HOwever, if it becomes known that they do this, there will be consequences: being avoided or no longer included in social events, more seriously, losing privileges in the congregation and for some of them, being disfellowshipped (shunned) where other JWs will not speak to them.
Disfellowshipping offenses:
#17 All churches are of Satan
Going to a church for Sunday services would get a JW disfellowshipped if he were caught.
#31 You cannot celebrate your birthday
If caught, a JW could be df'd. A person's own family member may turn them in to the elders.
#32 You cannot run for or hold a political campaign.
Definitely df'ing offense.
#33 You cannot vote in any political campaign
ditto.
#72 You cannot support your country
Not openly. -

Blonde, Brunette, Redhead? Do you have a favorite?
by Paralipomenon inthis is a fun question that i like to pose in social settings.
regardless of who your significant other is, i've found that people have a definite preference for hair color.
what i found even more interesting is that people usually preferred a hair color different than their own.

On me, I like blonde and red hair. On my men, I like dark hair, then blond. I'm not usually attracted to redheaded men for some reason.

Whats your favourite "reward" to yourself for accomplishing something?
by Crumpet insometimes as an incentive to do something that requires hard work and will in the long term be beneficial to attend to i'll offer myself a reward.
yes maybe the accomplishment in itself should be the reward - but i need motivation!.
so do you give yourself a carrot for getting that long put off chore, for going to see someone who needs or wants to see you, for finishing a goal, for losing weight?

It guess it would depend on the size or importance of the accomplishment. For minor or medium accomplishments, I usually buy a book, subscribe to a magazine or buy some clothing. Sometimes, I reward myself with an extra nice meal out or a bottle of wine that costs in the double digits, rather than the cheap stuff I usually drink.
I just got my daughter graduated from high school, so I'm wondering how to reward myself for that.... -

Notes: Friday District Convention - Follow the Anointed Who Follow Christ
by truthseeker intoday was the first day of three for this year's "follow the christ" district convention.. for the first time in as many years as i can go back, the theme of this program was jesus christ.. most of the program was ok. the talks considered jesus, his life and his works.
there was nothing about the talks that i considered insulting or controlling.. could this be it?
could the society really be going jesus-centric?.

want to know what's weird?
by ninja inwe all know there is no mention of cats in the bible...not one....but another thing that's weird is that there is no reference to any people in the old testament taking their kids down to the beach to make sandcastles and stuff...why?

What accounts for our ever-changing view of ourselves?
by AlmostAtheist inbut i find that at times i feel like i've got a lot to offer -- at work, with my kids, here on jwd.
even on stage.
and other times, i feel like "what have i got to say that everybody else doesn't already think?

I sometimes think that way as well. Just yesterday, I was going to post about how celebrating major life events with someone makes the event even sweeter, but decided I might sound maudlin or pathetic so I didn't.
Other times I think maybe someone will read the post or hear the comment who hasn't heard it before. I'm amazed when I say something that seems like common sense and isn't particularly deep or profound (to me) and my audience applauds my wisdom.

I share my thoughts and opinions as a way to connect with people, or ofer my insights in a situation that may need it. My mind may be my greatest gift (which isn't saying much) so I should use it to help others. -

If you could repeat your life.
by DJK insorry for the edit.
this may have been a topic before.. i got the idea for this from crumpets thread "if i could make your dreams come true what would they be?".
i have been asked many times "if i could go back in my life and change it, what would i do?

The main things I would have done differently is not get baptized. The other regret I have is not having another child, which was due to not being married which was due to looking for a JW to marry 'only in the Lord'. I also would have been nicer as a kid and teenager, stopped worrying so much, and enjoyed the journey more. I also would have invested in Microsoft in 1985 when a coworker was trying to persuade me to do so. Ditto for all the high-flying dotcom stocks - except I would have sold before 2000.
