My JW relatives say "even if this isn't the truth, it's still a good way to live life." I think many JWs think this way.

What are JW's leaders going to do when we hit the year 2014 and no Armaggdn
by booker-t inwe are fast approaching the year 2014 which will be 100 years since 1914. what are jw's and the wt going to do if armaggeddon has not occurred by then?
will they come up with a bunch of "new light" to do away with 1914 all together?
will they suddenly announce that jesus came into kingdom power in the year 2014?

I just found this site....THANK GOD!
by confused_101 inok long story short i was baptized at 17 (because i felt pressured into it), and i was df about 2yrs ago i believe (i'm 27 now).
i wasn't at the final meeting, or any meeting about my dfing.
i had an elder call me twice at work and tell me that there was meeting that night.

Hi confused,
Welcome to the forum! I can understand where you're coming from because I was coerced into getting baptized at 18. I did a little research on a few topics before that, but only a little - I guess I was afraid of what I would find. I'm on a spiritual journey as well and I'm trying to redefine 'truth' whatever that may be. I wish you the best on your quest.

John 2:19, 20 and Naos
by IsaacHorwitz inthe best way for me to ask my question is to start out with a skit:.
jw: i agree that jesus is speaking of his body in john 2:19 when he calls it a temple (naos).
however, when the jews say that the temple was 46 years in the building, they use the word naos and are not refering to jesus body.

Need for an org and need to be judged by one's works
by karola ini need some help reaching a friend regarding the faults of the society and the control they have over us.
i keep stressing that the nt insists that salvation is by faith and not by works and that those under works of law are in fact under a curse.
(see gal 3:10-11 and romans 3:20-24).

Hi Karola,
Welcome to the forum! You have your work cut out for you. Paul wrote under inspiration, so would know about the wrongdoer. Does your friend feel that the GB is inspired? They don't claim to be inspired. Does your friend feel that elders or a judicial committee is inspired and would be able read heart conditions? Also it's interesting that the only df'ing Paul called for was for a man fornicating with his mother (in law?, step?) in 1 Cor., something that the "nations" didn't do. Paul frequently wrote about those creating divisions within the congregation, but he never called for their removal.
You may have more success arguing points that he has doubts about.

A square peg in a round hole.....
by AK - Jeff indid you ever feel like that after leaving the witness cult?
i mean, wifey and i spent our whole lives as witnesses.
w have no formal education beyond hs, no real marketable skills of a professional nature, no real friends outside the organization, never developed many hobbies, on and on.. i can see why some go back to the organization - or never leave even when armed with the facts.

Hi Jeff,
I've felt different much of my life, but I can't attribute it to being a JW. We moved around a lot as a kid, so I never fit in, even before we became JWs. When we first became JWs, I was very zealous and walked the straight and narrow. So much so, that the JW kids thought I was a square. There were no other young fanatics like me in the cong. so I didn't fit in with my JW peers. Then, I realized as a teen I didn't want to be judgmental and self-righteous and fanatic like my JW family, so I became an outsider even around them.
As I entered college, still a JW, I wasn't into partying and drinking and drugs, so I was an outsider there. When I started my first professional corporate job, I realized I didn't want to climb the corporate ladder, because of the questionable ethics and lack of integrity I saw among the bigwigs, and especially they're disregard for the peons. So my lack of ambition made me an outsider. Currently at work, there are other unambitious ones like me, but they're at different stages in their lives. So I don't feel I fit in.
I certainly don't fit in my JW congregation, being the only 40ish single parent and "professional career woman" who's definitely on the bottom rung of the social ladder, due to being marked and being inactive.
I don't know if it's my thinking or deeply entrenched patterns of keeping a distance, but I know that I'M the one who will have to change. Once my daughter gets a bit older, I'm going to join a book club and will also volunteer for a charity to get out and about, getting hobbies and making some friends. I may also get brave enough to meet up with some of the ex-JWs in this area. I'm still hopeful that I'll overcome whatever restrictive habits I have, round off my square peg and find a round hole to call home.

Hi 2112,
I'm a nominal JW, and I'll say that JWs publically in talks are thankful for Jehovah and for the actions of the FDS, especially the latter. But in private conversation, I don't hear many expressions of thanks, except from some of the older ones. I surely don't hear it from my JW family. I really think that 'worldly' people I know are more thankful than JWs especially in attributing good things to God.
I think you should call JWs on that type of self-righteous thinking. I've started doing that with my family and it's making me less popular than ever.
