the cycle never ends even when you leave the wt.
you go from one set of fears to another set of fears.
i used to be terrified of armageddon when i was a jw and just knew i was going to get hit by a lightning bolt from jehovah on that day.

This book will scare the poo out of you. I hope you chuckled a little, but don't take it TOO lightly. This book seriously caused me to reexamine my faith in other people. Milgram's experiment rocked the world, and to hear the man's take on what happened will bring you further into this great study. There's lots of detail about the study and tables of data, which can get tedious but elevate the books credibility, and help you play along at home once Milgram starts to interpret the data. You'll notice other reviewers farther down debating w/ Milgram based solely on reading his book. That should tell you he did a good job of providing the data, not just the "correct" (his) conclusions. I also really found the book a gripping read. Milgram has an accesible writing style, and you'll have no trouble keeping up with him even when his mind starts humming. So while the subject is about as rough as it gets, the information in the book is easy to get at, even if you don't really like what you find. If you are interested in the subject matter, I believe you'll really enjoy this. Was this review helpful to you? ( Report this ) (Report this) |
ice???Jesus Could Have Walked on Ice, Scientist Says

Rare conditions could have conspired to create hard-to-see ice on the Sea of Galilee that a person could have walked on back when Jesus is said to have walked on water, a scientist said today.
The study, which examines a combination of favorable water and environmental conditions, proposes that Jesus could have walked on an isolated patch of floating ice on what is now known as Lake Kinneret in northern
Israel .
Looking at temperature records of the Mediterranean Sea surface and using analytical ice and statistical models, scientists considered a small section of the cold freshwater surface of the lake. The area studied, about 10,000 square feet, was near salty springs that empty into it.
The results suggest temperatures dropped to 25 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 degrees Celsius) during one of the two cold periods 2,500 –1,500 years ago for up to two days, the same decades during which Jesus lived.
With such conditions, a floating patch of ice could develop above the plumes resulting from the salty springs along the lake's western shore in Tabgha. Tabgha is the town where many archeological findings related to Jesus have been found.
"We simply explain that unique freezing processes probably happened in that region only a handful of times during the last 12,000 years," said Doron Nof, a Florida State University Professor of Oceanography. "We leave to others the question of whether or not our research explains the biblical account."
Nof figures that in the last 120 centuries, the odds of such conditions on the low latitude Lake Kinneret are most likely 1-in-1,000. But during the time period when Jesus lived, such “spring ice” may have formed once every 30 to 60 years.
Such floating ice in the unfrozen waters of the lake would be hard to spot, especially if rain had smoothed its surface.
"In today's climate, the chance of springs ice forming in northern Israel is effectively zero, or about once in more than 10,000 years," Nof said.
this obviously is my first post, i actually feel like i may be sick but i felt compelled to post.
only if to just say hello.. my life has been anything but boring, pioneered for years, brought several family members into "the truth", and find myself unable to have studies anylonger because i feel unsure about the stand i have taken all these years.. i was previously married, my husband left the organization for various reason, we divorced and i recently remarried another brother, he is a wonderful man and husband, i care for him deeply we and had been friends for 15 years.
i also have a son from my first marriage who is 4, he is the love of my life, recently my son had an opertion that could require a blook transfusion and to be honest i could never deny him that.
I am in the same situation. Once you break the thinking pattern that the GB is KING than things start to clear up. "In search of Christian Freedom" by R Franz Chapter 3 is really enlightening. I highly recommend this book. Hope that helps.
i was having a good conversation with my mum, and then............... id said too much.. she had been telling me she didnt ant to go to the hall, for a number of reasons, and when i started critisizing the borg she went all haughty and started telling me i should be going!!!!!!!!!.
the usual, its so near the end, its the only truth............blah blah.
its 3.30am here and i cant sleep, i just want everyone to know i dont go anymore but i cant.
I am in the same boat. Sometimes I want to say something but I hold my tongue. So for the moment I just put on a fake smile and never say anything bad about the org and to try to go to enough meetings and minimal service. It sucks, I am only in for my fam.
there i am, saturday morning, 9am, having a coffee with my kids, hair very messy, no make up, pj's on still, and they show up!
why do they never phone first and make an appointment?
i have asked them to do this but they won't comply.
When I was an elder I dropped by unannounced sometimes. Looking back, my mindset was that they should appreciate that I took the time to visit them withought calling ahead. Hey, I was appointed by holy spirit thus I am over the rules.
I got visited by 2 elders last month (unannounced). They usually take advantage of dropping by since they are already out in service and in the area. I hated the conversation...first it's we are happy with you guys then IS THEIR SOMETHING WE CAN HELP YOU WITH? Na fools. Go away.
.
staying in midtown manhattan.... know any good pubs/coffee houses/cigar bars/aposto hang-outs ?.

hit up times square, you will find a mess load ... say hello to the bethelites for me ;-)
wearing faded jeans only as a bethelite is a cause for concern for the governing body.
i had jeans that were not totally faded as the "world" would consider them.
so one freaken' weekend as i passed by a wt building, a tightwod bethel elder (now just an elder) asked me how i was doing (bla bla bla).
one sister who worked with copiers was so upset cause sisters in the offices (including housekeepers aka: maids) could no longer work in slacks but had to wear dresses... she was pissed!!! her work required her to hunker over and go under desks, pick ups and deliveries etc. etc. I felt sorry for her. she went against policy but i guess the big wigs acquiesced. stupid rules. they said that so that all the branches could be in sync ...
greetings have any of you ever used your card on ebay?
were you concerned with security?
i am considering doing it but am a bit worried bout security.
not yet. actually I have come across awesome sellers. One was a witness! ;-)
I've sold stuff as well.
good day..... i am very interested in hearing from anyone who is on this board that is still going to meetings.
i was wondering.... .
since you find yourself on this board with countless people who have left and are telling their personal stories, not to mention exposing that organization for the brainwashing cult that it truly is.... is this helping you to leave and make the final departure?.
I go for one reason only... my family. My father really believes in this mess, my mother was a die-harder but now she don't give a damm cause she is mentally inbalanced. We go sporadically, we all mainly go to keep this sorry butt new elder "friend" off our back.
