Frass, your intended reply was brilliant. It wasn't ranting or accusative and there was no veiled sarcasm.
In your Mums state of mind though I doubt she could read any of it objectively. I like the way you didn't try and point out where her 30 year faith was wrong.Imagine having to accept such a huge chunk of life has gone irretrievably, it would feel humiliating.
I'm not sure about your Dad though. Is he a man of few words, or is he very angry? I suspect he's not as hard line as Mum and doesn't want to hurt either of you.
Well Done!

have you heard of accusations of ex witnesses starting their own church?
by candidlynuts ina comment from a family member about an elder who quit attending meetings the other day was " oh they dont attend anymore, i dont think they're df'd but its known they started their own church".
ok so i didnt think much about it..other than it doesnt seem the sort of thing this fella would ever do.. .
but..today i read a story on freeminds ( will look for the link in a bit and will post it).

Like Blondie said, I think those that have been a dub for any length of time would have 'starting own religion' at the bottom of a very long list after leaving.
I do recall an elder in one of my congs. though leaving his family after being disfellowshipped and joining a Pacific Island Pentecostal church as an elder.
Me, I can spot a religious person from a hundred paces and avoid them like the plague. -

Heard today: "Wow, why's it so long?"
by Elsewhere inthat's right, i was at frys browsing around to kill some time and while i was in the computer section i saw a kid and his dad looking at monitors.
the kid apparently had never seen a crt monitor before.
damn... makes me feel old.

Oh... I thought it was going to be something rude...Buuut as I'm still here, I got pulled over a few months ago for having a headlight out. I went and sat in the cops car for a breath test and he asked for my licence which is a green card identical in proportions to a credit card. Three times in my nervousness I handed him my blue EFTPOS (ATM) card and each time he politely said 'no, that's not it' and then he pointed it out to me. I looked at him and asked if he'd like to breath test me again.

Why some won't leave the Watchtower
by JH inname as many reasons as you can why some won't leave the watchtower organization, even though they know something is wrong.

Laziness. Like lying in a big warm bed while the meds. are delivered to you.

What "Awoke" you from the Watchtower's grip?
by JH in.
in my case, i was very generous with those in need in the congregation, because i had a good job, but when i lost that good job, no one gave me a helping hand.
they just didn't care about my financial well being.. also the years went by and it was as if we were getting further and further away from what they previously prophetized.

Eddie, brilliant story mate! My wife kind of said this to me but over months not moments.

Die for what i thinks right.
by KW13 ini started a thread not long ago about how - if my mum had to choose between me (my life) or the society what would she choose.
i got the expected response.. today i took it a step further, i said.
personally even though i claim to be a christian i would not make you die for my beliefs.

She's probably thinking of Jesus coming to bring 'a sword' between family members. One of the worst things about the org. is the way it's members rapidly lose fellow-feeling for others beliefs and ideas. An inability to accept that someone can believe differently to you and still be inherently lovable. I've never known a group of people anywhere to cast off blood relatives like the JW's do.
I wonder though, that if push comes to shove, she'll actually be there for you? -

World Cup...
by zeroday ini'm trying to watch the world cup honestly, but this has to be the most boring game ever invented.

I am a football nut. I watch every game, not always live though.
But it's funny hearing about what others find boring. We get an American formatted ESPN channel over here that broadcasts hours and hours of Baseball, American Football and Basketball, oh and GOLF!!
We get the WORLD SERIES of obscure games and sports like cards and dominoes. But a World Series of sports played by a dozen or so countries!?
There are only about 5 countries on the planet that don't enter the World Cup. Perhaps it's the simplicity and beauty of the game that appeals to all cultures.
And by the way, the U.S has a very good side, give them some support!

Hi KW, Can you rephrase your situation. I'm not sure I quite grasp what you're saying. Sorry, a bit thick! Cheers Pete
