" the watch tower had stock in some weapons manufacturers at one time. he probably worked for a competitor."
Now this is interesting. I believe the stock is or was with the Rand Corporation? The Society would argue, presumably, that they had no direct link with armament manufacture because the stock was bundled up with a larger poretfolio. Now would they nail a brother for being employed by a company that had its threads in a military business? Too right they would!
That's about as hypocritical as joining the UN to get a library card.

Disfellowshiped to make an example out of you
by Wordly Andre ini knew someone who was df because of where they worked, the elders df him and said they needed to make an example out of him to the rest of the cong,
he worked at a company who supplied military & civilian parts, a few of his co-workers were jw's but nothing happend to them.
i alway felt race had something to do with it and maybe jealousy, he was a dark hispanic in a mostly white hall, and he made a lot of money, had a big house and drove a caddy.

Were YOU Depressed When You Were A Witness?
by minimus ini've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.
i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.
personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?

I can't add any more.
The overwhelming sense of never being good enough.
Inclined towards perfectionism + WTB&TS 'falling short of the mark' constantly extinguishes the spirit.
Years of thinking a certain way takes at least as many years to undo.

...and keep on thinking free
by undercover ini just heard an old moody blues song i haven't heard in years.
it was actually a medley...it started out with a spoken word/poem piece called "in the beginning" before moving into "lovely to see you".. anyway, i had always gotten a kick out of the poem but hearing it today, after finding my way out of the jws, gives it a whole new meaning:.
1st voice(man): i think, therefore i am...i think.

"I think John Lennon wrote this for exjw's"
Worldly Andre, I believe this is an urban myth amongst Dubs. My wife believed this to be true once.

Noah's rectangular Ark
by vomit insomething from when i was younger; i always was forced to believe that noahs ark was rectangular, since it was in the bible stories and other publications that way.
but in any other religious books the ark always had at least a bit of a curved stern and a v or u shaped hull.
a v or u shaped hull with ribs is far stronger, timber efficient, hydrodynamic and can take a few hits.

The societys reasoning was that because the measurements were given in cubits, H X W X L, that it was reasonable it was a big box shape. It just had to float, not go anywhere.
You make a good point though. The lengths of timber and their spans would have been subject to immense forces. A conventional shaped hull design would have displaced weight and water much more easily than trying to brace straight bits of wood and somehow keep the whole thing balanced what with everyone haring off to one side to watch the dolphins!
'course, J. could make a lump of concrete float if he wanted. So stop trying to be difficult!

"Beating" The WATCHTOWER to the "punch"

This is just another piece in a long running debate over here on corporal punishment.
Generally the Liberal/Greenie types want legislation to prevent a parent laying a forceful hand on their child. This has been the reaction to the fact that there have been terrible beatings and murders of little children recently.
The majority of normal parents, however, know the difference between a smack on the bum and an all out beating.
Unfortunately, we have to battle the hand-wringers who want to make a law for every concievable thing in life.
Sound like anyone else you know? -

Are "orbs" in photographs spirits?
by LovesDubs inas weird as i may be perceived, i do believe you can catch spirit entities on film.

they are attracted to frovility, laughing, children, parties, families...and i take pictures at every function i go to and they arent always there.

Nathan, lens flare is always caused by a bright light source striking the lens elements at an oblique angle. Usually the effect is to produce multi-coloured images of the aperture or an overall 'ghosting' of the image.
These orb things, however, are new to me. I have seen photographic gear that produce odd little images due to a pinhole light leak inside the lens, and they always mimic the shape of the hole or crack. -

What's the BIGGEST LIE you ever heard?
by nicolaou in.
someone i knew stood up at the convention to answer her two baptism questions both with a "yes".
she was having an affair with a married brother at the time.. but i'd top my 'biggest lie' list with four small words; "in the beginning, god"

I learnt that an ounce of action was worth more than a ton of prayer.
