Hey - first time here
by kimoko inhello i am megan tis my first time here (hence the title :) ) so i just thought i would introduce myself.. i've never actually never been actually been a jehovahs witness but i first actually got introduced to it in january when i met the amazing kw13 haha :) since then ive looked at books, articles and had a wonderous time on the friday of the 2006 3 day jw convention .
i'm trying to help karl get his mum out of the witnessing, hopefully we can get through its not gonna be easy but we are optimistic.
its been a real difficult time for me trying to understand the witnessing because it went from 16 years of just knowning them as them people who bother you at your door to getting to know alot more and their "morals".

Witness accepts transfusion to save life.
by bigmouth inmy wife, who is studying midwifery, has just finished watching an episode of maternity ward wherein a dub by the name of yvette thompson was having a caesarean due to fibroids among other things.
she told the doctor she wouldn't have a transfusion because of being a jw.
her 'fiance' said he disagreed with her stand but he would intervene if need be.

My wife, who is studying midwifery, has just finished watching an episode of Maternity Ward wherein a dub by the name of Yvette Thompson was having a Caesarean due to fibroids among other things. She told the doctor she wouldn't have a transfusion because of being a JW. Her 'fiance' said he disagreed with her stand but he would intervene if need be.
The baby was fine but Yvette continued to bleed after the op. At the point she was told that there was nothing more that could be done for her and she would likely die, she changed her mind and accepted a transfusion.
Do you know this woman? What's the likelihood she was D/F lickety-split for this rebellious act? And I imagine that many in the medical profession will be happy to see the dubs cave in when push comes to shove.
This was the U.S. series not the U.K. one -

Trouble crying!

Hi Jonno, I don't think there is a right or wrong about showing emotion or crying. Hamsterbait is about right.
As a person with clinical depression for nearly 30 years you might be surprised that I hardly ever cry. I didn't cry when my daughter died nor my mother, granny or uncle. However when I watch a sad movie I can sniff and snuffle with the most emotional woman! When my favourite cat died a few years ago I cried like baby.
I think men learn to disconnect from strong emotion as a survival mechanism.
And I am sure you can feel empathy whith others who are upset.

I just realized that I never answered Honestys question!
I was always aware of a lot of illness in the congregations here. I didn't know what depression was in my early years and just accepted that the general downtrodden feeling everyone had was the effect of living in this ' wicked old system '. I now know depression when I see it and it is rampant throughout the Org. -

Wonderwoman I think your reply was quite succinct. Welcome by the way!
I noticed during my various times at outpatients therapy groups at hospital, a number of younger witnesses have come and gone without any progress made. I remember seeing one getting whipped out by daddy elder.
I often wonder if I joined the organisation with the hope that the 'good news' would soothe my tormented mind. I found that my low self worth was worsened by my never seeming able to keep up with all the 'work'.
Once I became suicidal, I got put into the too hard basket. Listening to others on JWD has been an enormous help along with appropriate meds and talk therapy.I've not been in hospital for nearly a year now
