Explicit Christmas Carol Causes Religious Controversy in Jehovah's Witness Community
Los Angeles, California -- A hip hop Christmas song entitled “No Christmas For the Jehovah’s Witness” has been causing a stir within the Jehovah’s Witness community. The song recorded by underground hip hop artist Dusty Roze, a former Jehovah’s Witness himself, lampoons the fact that members of the religion are forbidden to celebrate the popular holiday.
The song tells the story of a young boy who yearns for that special Christmas feeling, but is forbidden by his parents to partake in the yearly festivities. The song, which can be found on the rapper’s website www.harraway.com, contains an offensive expletive.
"No Christmas For the Jehovah's Witness
All the Catholics and Baptists get gifts
No Christmas For the Jehovah's Witness
So how come Dusty Roze don’t get S- - -"
This has been interpreted by some within the Jehovah’s Witness community to be sacrilegious and defamatory.
“This song isn’t meant to offend anyone of any faith” says the 27 year old rapper who’s song topics range from space travel to the current Bush administration. “This song is just about my experiences growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness, not having Christmas while all the other kids got presents and celebrated.”
