POLL : Your reaction IF all religion was suddenly banned worldwide

im interested in hearing what your personal reaction would be if (i say if because probably 99.9% here believe this will never happen) all the religions of the world were to be suddenly banned/shut down/decommissioned/liquidated/dismembered/etc.. by the political powers of the world.

what would your first post here say?

would it change your view of jehovah...of the "org"?

I have to agree with V and Elsewhere. The backlash would be huge, and any government with that much power would be awful. I am an atheist, but I would join any underground movements to destroy any government that had that much power. People claim that religion causes the evil in the world and that getting rid of it would help. I don't agree. While I feel that religion is foolish, I think that most evil is acted out because of a quest for power. Religion is just one of the many tools people use to control. Government shutting down religion would just be government gaining more power. That is a scary situation. Of course, you'd still have aboriginal tribes, amazonian religions, etc. How do you shut them down?

For instance, I know nothing about the Muslim faith other than what I have seen the extremists preach and do. Based on their actions many people have decided Islam is too dangerous to even exist. Maybe they are right, I don't know. You think that the extremism is bad now? Imagine what it would be like if you outlawed Islam!

Who else has trouble making friends?

haven't posted here in a while, but i"ve been out now almost three years.

just looking to hear from others who have had trouble making friends due to a childhood of jw antisocialism toward the real world.

it's really starting to piss me off that i still keep people at a distance and do things to nip any new friendships at the bud when it gets that far.

Anyway, this whole no friends deal is right in my face this week as my girl and I are getting married Friday and my side of the chapel will be just a tad empty. OK, really empty, as my parents are it. Pretty embarrassing, actually, as my JW sister turned down her invite and my JW brother never RSVP'ed, so 95% of the guests will be from Jen's side. Man, I just hope she can deal with the visual of only 2 people there for her future husband. Reminds me of when Marge Simpson's mother marries Mr. Burns and the only guest on his side is a WWII Nazi with a spiked helmet, while her side of the church is full, but, I digress...

Sounds like my wedding. Two sisters, a NON-JW aunt and uncle. wooooohooooo. My stepdad did show up for the reception.

It's always weird when you are invited to a volleyball game and they ask you if you know anyone else who might want to play...

Sometimes in social situations I feel like everyone else received some memo
before the "party" that I didn't get - one that told them what to say, what to ask, how to act.

Reminds me of a song that opens:

isn't knowledge a good thing?.

Realization about the Adam and Eve myth

as i looked at the adam and eve story again, i realized the something is wrong with the story.

jehovah offers the pair all the fruits in the garden of eden save the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.

there's a problem though, why would there be a fruit for that if bad supposedly wasn't around at that point yet?

Masturbation helps-via porn or fantasy (yeah, they still do it regardless of whether or not it is allowed. They aren't the only relilgion that says it is bad, though they might feel more guilty about it).

THE Society: sounds like some crappy movie about a cult(how fitting), or a John Grisham book)
"The Truth": Used so much that people who don't even believe it anymore call it "the truth" without thinking about what they are saying.
The organization: see "The society"
Out in service: sounds like a military term.

Is it possible to succeed without making enemies in the process?

is it possible to become the most powerful person on earth..without cutting throats or stepping on people to attain that goal?

or at best no enemies who can present a viable "good reason" against you and your success?

Simple questions without simple answers because of too many variables.

What do you do when asked a question you don't know the answer to?

do you admit your ignorance on the subject..and tell them to find someone who is already successfully achieved the results they are seeking...or try to point them to someone you know who is there?.

or do you use them as test monkeys and point them in a direction you are thinking of trying but afraid to do so.

or act like you know the answer so they do find out your true ignorance on the question?

Depends on the question, but if it is for directions: Second set of lights, take a right, across from the large building that looks like a barn. (maybe they would be better off getting directions from someone at the end of the road?) OK.... now if they are looking for a hospital because of an emergency, and not just a local bar, and I don't know how to get there, I will find someone who does!

So, I would venture you are talking about a question with some sort of merit where the answer will have vast implications. In such an instance, I would admit my ignorance and suggest they find someone more knowledgeabe, and point them (if possible) in the direction of where they might find such a person.
