"i have lds friends, and as much as i see them as a cult too, they are full of highly educated people with successful and well respected positions."
just goes to show, you can be highly educated, successful, and respected and still be a dumbass...
lol!!
okay i know this is a dumb question, but was it just me or did we seem to have a lot of janitors and landscape people in that religion.
i did know a couple of higher paying professions in our congregation, nurses, large business owners and a couple of retail managers.

having grown up a jw, i never noticed anything about the military, or country.
i still am learning so much.
so how funny is it .
i can't tell from the photo, his rank insignia would be on his collar or his cap...silver bar or bars, gold bars, cloverleaf, stars, etc.
i just found this article from fellow adelaidite b kotwall.
elders now are "glorious ones"
in the past the watchtower society (wts) claimed that the "glorious ones" in 2 peter 2:10-12 and jude 8 are of the "anointed" or "144,000" or "remnant" of such.
we remember when this first came out in the mid 90's. we laughed, we cried, we didn't believe anyone would ever take this seriously...we were wrong.
just a quick question i was thinking about, are jw's allowed to get annulments?
if so under what conditions?
one of my siblings got an annulment in california after 15 years of marrigage and children...the reason...married at 13-14 years old and a good lawyer. this was before becoming jw and at least 30 years ago.
the variety of posts to this forum is it's life blood. it is like any community, with many different citizens...personalities...perspectives. there is a place for you no matter where you are as an individual or where you are in connection to the jehovah's witnesses. if you were not connected you wouldn't find much lasting interest all though some threads would stand on their on anywhere.
i am tired of uniformity of thought. i want to know how people are different. i want to know how you approach this singular experience we know as existence. only you can give me your perspective. only you can tell me your story.
of course i personaly would like to see milder language and less negativity, but i can understand anger and bitterness and frustration. so if anger and profanity are the only languages you speak. i think you have to use that language and if i can listen i will...of course nobody is interested in everything. as far as response to any individual post is concerned, if you can talk to one person; that is communication. if you post something and get no response that doesn't mean no one saw it, reacted to it, or considered it a fine, funny, stupid, amazing, or asinine thing... they may not post for some reason or another, but you have done your part. you have communicated your fine, funny, stupid, amazing, or asinine thought. and i say good on ya. even if i don't always say it in a post.
edited to add: slowing down? aren't we all slowing down? or is it just me????
.
name any song ... new or old ... that has the word "rock" in the title or main lyrics.. obvious one: old time rock n roll - bob seger
the blues had a baby (and they called it rock and roll)-- muddy waters
this is a recent article in the awake 4/06 issue.
its funny because my husband and i were just discussing this yesterday.
i was having misgivings as to whether or not wearing a cross is bad.
i have never ceased to be amazed that people would argue over this...i remember a comedian doing a stand up routine in which he made the point that if jesus had been run over by a truck some people would wear a little truck instead of a cross. i think this is one of those times when paul said mind your own business. i believe everyone is entitled to their choice. if you don't shove it in my face i won't harass you about a choice that is absolutly yours to make. another thing people disagree on, and i have never understood this, is which drawing of jesus is correct...there aren't any photos...they are all incorrect.
like others have said, do what makes you comfortable and do it in a loving way. it will be ok.
....edited to add the same thing goes for stakes
my mother married a man that was a complete and utterly a-hole.
he made life miserable, and i would say he made my life like living in hell (for 9 1/2 years).
i don't know what his problem was, but i guess it was this darn religion and more.
hi heather,
thanks for the pm. i am doing good(well i'm trying to anyway)...do what i do, use your stepfather as a bad example. i have been a step father and there is a big difference between caring and not caring.
i was talking to two elders yesterday..... i was confronted about the whole "bad associations" question.
i asked them what "bad associations" were.
they have no idea what bad associations are to the author, only their opinions and the opinions of their chosen leaders.
d/c,
if it is my opinions they are adopting, i call them friends...hehehe

welcome heather,
i have a similar story, except my stepfather was never a jw, never read a watchtower, never read an awake...and was horrible person to me for thirty-three years; right up until he died. but you can rise above this.
