Reading WT & Awake for X years = College Education
by under_believer inhas anybody ever heard any witnesses utter that old saying "reading the magazines for 10 years [or whatever] is equivalent to getting a college education?
" a couple of things are amusing about this.
one is its utter and complete falsehood--what a crock!

under believer --- too funny! did any prospective employers call you on that one? how did you explain it? and most important...when explaining it -- did you count this as time? perhaps you counted just the act of submitting your resume as time?

What did your worldly friends think?
by Fleshybirdfodder inat around 19 years of age i started dating a "worlding" girl and brought her to meetings to get the elders off my back (to no avail of course... i was "marked").
needless to say word got out and some of my other friends decided to check out some of the meetings.
one of my closest friends who had been to many church services (he is a gifted musician and played organ at his church and several others) came to a theocratic ministry school/service meeting.

Miss Peaches: I would also like to go to a meeting now to observe as a non-JW. however, I'm worried about the love bombing aspect. Membership is dwindling and I'm sure that I would be looked at as FLESHY BIRD FODDER. lol

FleshyBirdFodder --- I agree with Miss Peaches -- yours is the best name yet! Regarding your post about the clapping -- LOL!!! I remember the last few speeches at the assembly on the last day were when the clapping got really frenzied and crazy. Everytime the speaker so much as raised an eyebrow everyone broke out in applause. Very odd. But I never heard affirmative clapping to a negative question. That's hilarious!

regarding the WT/Awake providing a college education...on a somewhat related note: I worked in HR a number of years ago and a resume of a JW came across my desk. Under education the person actually listed graduate of Theocratic Ministry School. That resume quickly found its way to the recycle bin. I must say I was a bit confused by the fact that this person had graduated from the TM --- was there a ceremony? I thought you NEVER graduated from TM. you just did the same boring assignments over and over, year after year, decade after decade....hoping that soon fire and destruction would rain down from above just so you didn't have to continue preparing those mindless talks.

I looked forward to them too....for at least 30 minutes there were no boring talks....just the sound of people scribbling on the review. Maybe the music thing is a figment of my imagination...at my congo they encouraged people to swap reviews for grading. I chose to keep mine to myself...usually it was full of doodles anyway.

MissBehave: I had also forgotten about the written review until Merfi brought it up in her post. I vaguely recall that there was music played in the background. Wait...let me clarify...not really music but kingdumb melodies. I usually flunked the written review -- I seem to remember there were a couple of questions for kids??? I got those wrong, too! I'm such a theocratic dumba**.

What are you doing Memorial Day weekend?
by juni inhopefully it will be a beautiful weekend.
we always get together with our entire family (kids and grandkids) for an all day picnic and fun and then watch the small town parades.
and then this weekend we will be playing "catch-up" with outdoor projects on the house that we couldn't get to because of the rain.

joining the fun late...I remember a paper I wrote in the 9th grade --don't remember the topic but throughout I wrote things like, "recent studies show..blah blah blah." or "a recent report concluded that..blah blah blah." My paper was given a low grade and was red-inked with comments like, "what report?" "what study?" "where did you find these references and why aren't you providing credible information?!?" I was completely embarrassed. That was an eye-opener to me as to the lack of credibility contained in the dub publications.
