New to the forum - want to introduce myself
by lovelylil inhi my name is lillian and i am posting for my first time.
i was a witness along with my husband and two children for 12 years and gave in my letter of disasociation about a year and a half ago.
i have struggled with the guilt of bringing my family in contact with the witnesses (i have always been a bible searcher) and i am only coming to terms with this recently.. i now consider myself a born again believer in christ jesus and read my bible daily to check and see what is true.

Elder has Power of Attny for my Mother
by limbogirl inmy witness mother has a rare form of leukemia -- fortunately she is doing well and it hasn't been an issue yet.
she notified me some time ago that she had completed forms to make one of the elders at her kh her power of attorney in the event that she required medical treatment.
she told me that she did this to relieve me and my siblings of having to make difficult decisions for her at that time -- meaning authorizing blood.

Hi Nsrn, I'm going to see my mother in July and plan to discuss this with her then -- I would prefer to have this discussion in person. We'll see.....

Whacky Witness Weirdness
by limbogirl inok, i'm sure all of us have met some incredibly bizarre jws over the years --- i have met some that could have been characters in a movie...just unbelievably weird.
i've shared some of my stories with a good friend (non jw) and she swears i'm making this stuff up.
how in the heck could i make these people up??

I knew one strange sister who preferred to use a pot in the kitchen pantry instead of the toilet in the bathroom.
There was another sister who attended the meetings sporting a beard. Her chin hair was about 4 inches long.
Saroise --
those are pretty whacky. the pot in the pantry is GROSS. hopefully you didn't eat any meals at her house. Just curious how you found that out? did she divulge this to you or you just went in the pantry to grab a cookie and there she was?
Here's another one I thought of -- can't help it, they just keep coming today:
old sister named Irene was in our cargroup for service. somehow I got stuck sitting in the car with her by myself while the others went to a door. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, she tells me..."don't ever eat appleseeds -- they are poisonous and will kill you." then she goes on to tell me that she knew a man who killed himself by saving up a big jar of appleseeds and then eating them. I was probably eight and for years and years I would eat apples very delicately hoping I wouldn't be killed by an appleseed.

Hi Kaethra,
took me a few minutes to get your post...my eyes kept reading Corner but Looking-Glass actually wrote Coroner. Now that's whacky!!
Looking-Glass: really? you sent the poor kid to the coroner? wow.

Hi Katherine -
welcome aboard...I, like, you lurked for some time and found that the more I read the more I identified with the stories and experiences which also brought back memories I hadn't thought of for years.
I find that posting and sharing stories is very therapeutic!!

Strange but TRUE
by KW13 inha ha i was laughing just now, had a strange memory.. when stepdad was away and/or when mum was playing the male role of jw head of household she used to cover her head.
anything...a hat, a scarf, tea towel (no lie!!)..
this was i think from the reasoning book or something, but yeh...covering her head out of respect for jehovah.

looking_glass:
that truly is sad. I wonder how he reconciles that experience with going to school and having to obey the authority of his presumably female teacher (who doesn't wear a napkin or book on her head when talking to him). Seriously, if I had shown up for service only to be led by a 9 yr old I would have left a lot sooner...completely ridiculous. 9 years old?? still such a baby.

There was a kid in my old hall that got baptized at 9 and he would go out in service and lead the group.
Oh my GAWD!!!!!! Probably wearing Scooby Doo underpants and carrying a Power Rangers bookbag. "stop the car, sisters...I've got to go pee-pee!"

I remember sister pioneer leading us second class females in prayer before service with either her text book on her head or a napkin she scrounged out of her purse. hadn't thought about that in years!! thanks for the laugh!

Virgochik -- hard to say...it could have been totally innocent, just a sweet old man but it does make you wonder...
Reminded me of a similar experience. As a little girl in the 70's there was an elder at our hall who adored me. Our family was close to him and his wife (they had no kids) and we spent quite a bit of time at their house. He did wood working as a hobby and was always making me little trinkets. I remember once he gave me a pin to wear that was a butterfly. He also sent me a card through the mail and on the inside he wrote, 'butterflies are free'. He also gave me a few Ziggy cards. When I was about ten my family moved from that kh -- at about the same time he was publicly reproved and removed as an elder. My dad was an elder at that time. In the past year I found out from dad (now an apostate) that the reason for the reproof and removal was because of...yep, allegations of child molesting.
I wonder now what his intentions really were? Sad because I had fond memories of him all these years and now I don't really know....
Strangely, my parents didn't have a negative reaction to his attentions toward me as a child.
