My Mom's First Birthday!!!!
by mama1119 ini threw my mom a surprise birthday party this year at a nice restaraunt with all her closest friends and family.
she hasn't had a birthday party since she was 7 (she turned 47 today).
she was in the borg for 25 years and this was the first time in 25 years she got to celebrate.

Entertaining yourself during the meetings

i always had little games i played.
to this day i have a fascination with notebooks and write almost compulsively when something is wrong.

Hey Cog: I don't think we were weird....just creatively surviving. My skills at "checking out" still come in handy when I'm at boring presentations or conferences.

Family moving; Need input
by LtCmd.Lore ini'm in a family of five and we are planning on moving, however... i'm going to da myself shortly after finishing school.
i want to wait because i won't be 18 'till april and could therefore be forced to attend the meetings.
so here is the issue, they are looking for a house that can comfortably fit five people, we have found several great houses that would work wonderfully for four people, but we are going the long and expensive way so that we can fit all of us comfortably.

I agree with jgnat (as usual :) -- have 'em get the bigger house so your poor sister will have more room when she and hubby end up living with your parents. I've known several witness families that have strict rules about when their kids can leave home -- sometimes well beyond twenty years old (more for the daughters than the sons). I had a friend who finally left home and got an apartment at 27 and her dad had a fit because he had a rule that she had to live at home until marriage. Good luck!

Thankful for Poops
by limbogirl ini worry about my 3 1/2 year old's exposure to the dubs via his grandparents (my ex-inlaws).
this weekend someone used the word "amen" and my son said, "you can only use the word amen if you are praying.
" i decided to see if he knew what praying meant so asked him to say a prayer.

This is an AWESOME post and brings back so many memories of my very "productive" childhood. Counting ceiling tiles, making up elaborate stories in my head about being adopted by a non-dub family, filling in all of the o's and a's in the WT, trying to use mental telepathy to get the speaker to trip over his words, imagining what kind of underwear everyone was wearing, and trying to count the entire stadium of people at the assembly. I had a dress when I was about nine that had a really intricate pattern -- I loved wearing it because when sitting at the meeting I would imagine the pattern to be a city and I would spend my time pushing little scraps of paper around on my lap -- these were actually cars and people zooming around in my city.

He solemnly asked us to bow our heads which we did and then said: JEHOVAH GOD: I LOVE POOPS AND FARTS!! followed by several minutes of laughing. I don't think I have anything to worry about. Still laughing today.

Scripturally Free to Remarry?
by limbogirl inhad a discussion with a friend of mine yesterday -- she's still semi in the borg.
anyway, she says she's free to remarry as defined by dub rules.
she's divorced, however, there was no cheating by either party in the marriage.

I cannot believe the logic used in this situation!! (or lack thereof) Let me also add that she married a non-dub who doesn't care at all about the dub nonsense. They divorced and haven't spoken since so there is no forgiveness or non-forgiveness involved. She was divorced when she did the deed that has now apparently made her scripturally free to remarry. So, she gets a divorce from a non-dub. Several months after divorce is final she sleeps with a non-dub and is publicly reproved. And now, she's scripturally free to remarry? How can anyone take this crap seriously -- it's ludicrous. In my opinion, the only one who is scripturally free to remarry (if you believe in such nonsense) is the ex-husb. Oh, did I mention that this whole thing came up because after not going to meetings for two years she decided to go to the DA -- and met a woman (sister) who is trying to marry off her divorced son and after confirming with my friend that she is scripturally free gave the son her phone number and within 24 hours he called and they had a first date...chaperoned of course by the parents. I laughed out loud when she told me this considering they are both in their 40's. Was I really a believer in this sh*t at one point??!?!?!?!

Believe it or not my friend pranced right over to the nearest kingdumb hall she could find and had a meeting with three elder's to confess that she had slept with someone she was not married to. I said, "have you learned nothing? why do you keep turning yourself in and confessing the intimate details of your life to these people???" (she's been df'd once and reproved about four times). She said to me, "well, I confessed so that I'm now scripturally free to remarry." I cannot believe that this makes her free to remarry as per the rules. This makes NO SENSE! I'm trying to get her to see this for what it is...CRAP.

HUH???? is that true? i thought she would only be free to remarry if the ex-husb had cheated within the context of the marriage. thoughts?

Just finished reading Nickeled and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. Very interesting book about the working poor in America. Eye opening and sad. Getting ready to start reading The Bookseller of Kabul.
