when i was 18, just back from living on the hopi res. in arizona ( after graduation in 1975!!!) i was paid a visit from an elder who was told i was dabbling in spiritism, due to my collection of native american art( i painted alot of myself..graet granny was N.A.)
any how a JC meeting was set up..i had NO idea that"s was what was to take place. this bozo elder sat in my apaertment dining room( gasp..i was alone too!!!!) waiting for the rest of the "boyz" to show up....
well they never did make it over for this so called meeting. but my mom was talked to about my "activities" as i had a worldly room-mate and had all this evil native american indian stuff all over my apartment.
i was 18..on my own, what was she gonna do ..whoop me? i was rebellious in my own right, but even my devout mother thought this was silly, as she loved my art and welcomed a diversion from our mundane new england existance
any how, there is more stupid elder stuff some where in my brain, when i come across it i'll post..lol

i once had an elder say to me that my brother, who was at the time fighting in vietnam will be destroyed and killed over in 'nam because he did not accept "jehovah"!!!!

Overweight JWs -- on the increase?

it was deliberate.. i can recall in the 1970s seeing very few overweight jws.
in fact, i used to think (in my arrogant jw manner) that this was a sign of how jws were better at self-control than worldly people.

there is an increase in obesity all over the usa, but in jw land i think depression is a huge factor in obese sisters. all the ones i grew up with save 1 was over weight...and all depressed

and you are right...the pedophile issue deserves full attention ... would be nice without commercials too!
That subject alone should shake jw's to the roots..i hope it does. my youngr sis (#2) has a son who has been accused of molestation ..even by his own cousins. I have only recently learned of some of this and there is thinking that perhaps his grandfather or uncle(both jw's) may had molested the boy as a toddler, resulting in this behavior. needless to say, being on the outside I had not been privy to much info about the situation. this has caused a lot of problems in the family and the kh they attend..
sad, but they believe it is the "truth" no matter what goes on. i do believe the boy has had some jail time for another offense, and one niece has had to have therapy.
it's heart breaking no matter the religious affiliation

i sent a copy of the UN fax to an editor at a local paper who just happens to be a jw..
small town so i doubt it will get any coverage but perhaps will get the gossip ball rolling..we can count on that fer ser

i had about the same reaction from my sister(as above poster) she calmly stated that she was quite sure the bro's thought this out carefully and was sure this was to further the worldwide preaching work as well.
she also stated that she did not recall the wbts preaching AGAINST the un, but that is was simply the great beast blah blah blah...
I do not think that many dubs will get to overly upset over this news, as the spin miesters at hq have carefully woven their web of deceit and call it "new light".
I really thought this would send her into a tailspin and cause her to do some earnest research, but she's like the rest of the rank and file...defend the org to the bitter end. She was also quite sure all of the info was false, can't believe ANY thing from the net..
i came away from our conversation utterly defeated...what will it take to make them see the truth about the wbts????

Why are JWs scared of death?
by NikL ini have been thinking a lot lately about death.
this is not surprising considering the turn of events on the 11th.. i have been re-awakened to the transient nature of human life and how it can go in the blink of an eye.
as the bible says life is vanity and a striving for the wind.. with all of the talk about world war 3 and how dangerous this world has become, i have been on a bit of an emotional roller coaster this past week.. the fear of dying is a normal and basic emotion.

when my mom passed away i noticed that my sisters were almost beyond hysterical. strange behavior for those who claim death is a state of sleep like nothingness, and as mother was faithful, then she would more than likely be ressurected.
as i recall tho, in her memorial speech(given as a "talk", rather than much mention of her life) the elder did say that"IF Jehovah chooses, He can recreate her DNA( is this a form of cloning i wonder?), and she will be able to live once more in the (infamous) new system."
seems to me that there is no sure thing about what the jw's teach about life beyond this present world we live in. so yes, they are very afraid to die, because apart from what the Bible really says , they have been spoon fed the poison of "IF".
